Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Medical/Surgical Telemetry

Location: Alton, Illinois

Contract Length: 12 weeks

Job Description

• Unit: Acute Medical Unit with Medical and Telemetry patients
• Shift: Days, 0700-1930, 3 shifts per week (12-hour shifts)
• Schedule: Weekdays and weekends, no call required
• Patient Population: Adults and Geriatrics
• Average Daily Census: 16-18 patients
• Beds on Unit: 24
• Staffing Ratios: Nights 1:5
• Float: Required within service line and scope
• Experience: Minimum 1 year of nursing experience required
• Travel Experience: Not required; first-time travelers accepted
• Local Candidates: Not accepted within 75-mile radius
• Pending License: Not accepted

Clinical Responsibilities

• Care for acutely ill adult and geriatric patients with general medicine, surgical, or infectious disease diagnoses
• Telemetry monitoring for non-acute cardiac conditions including EKG rhythm identification and management of non-titrating cardiac drips (decrease/weaning allowed, no increase titration)
• Pre- and post-procedure evaluation and care
• Neurological assessment and care of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) and transient ischemic attack (TIA) patients
• Exclusions: No care for patients with active unstable GI bleeding, uncontrolled ischemic chest pain with unstable vitals, continuous non-invasive positive pressure ventilation (NPPV), or patients on certain medications (Tenecteplase, Insulin drip, Neosynephrine, Nipride)

Required Certifications

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)

Preferred:

• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification
• Epic charting experience preferred

Required Licenses

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Illinois
• No pending licenses accepted

Compliance and Background Requirements

• Government-issued ID required
• Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches
• Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
• Education verification of highest nursing degree required
• Fingerprinting required for assignments involving long-term care or rehab units in Illinois
• Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include standard panels and be valid throughout assignment
• Physical exam within 1 year of start
• Fit mask testing required and must be renewed annually
• Immunizations and health screenings required:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season
• Various facility-specific compliance documents and trainings required prior to start (e.g., HIPAA, hand hygiene, dress code, confidentiality)

• Unit accepts first-time travel nurses
• No local candidates within 75 miles accepted
• Float within service line required
• Epic electronic health record system experience preferred
• No call required

References and Documentation

• Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
• Employment application and unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start
• Performance evaluations may be requested but are not mandatory for extensions or per diem

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
• Telemetry nursing experience of at least 1 year, with telemetry experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
