Job Description
- Position: Registered Nurse in Cardiac ICU, night shifts
- Patient ratio: Approximately 1:2 (day, night, weekends)
- Float requirement: Yes (ICU, PCU)
- Critical care experience required, including experience with PA catheters
- ACLS and BLS certifications required
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
- Experience:
- Minimum 1.5 years if from a Level 1 trauma center or large hospital
- First-time travelers accepted
- No on-call required
- Facility type: Short Term Acute Care, Level I Trauma Center
- Charting system: Epic
Required Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license for Connecticut
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification (AHA or ARC)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (AHA or ARC)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Critical care experience with PA catheter management
- Ability to float to ICU and PCU units
- Must pass a 7-year criminal background check and other standard background screenings
- Verification of education and licensure required
- Competency exams including medication/pharmacology and dysrhythmia/EKG (for Telemetry, ICU, PCU units)
- Color Blind Testing required (must score 80% or higher)
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 12 months of start (annual update required)
- Required immunizations and health screenings including TB test, drug screening, and flu vaccination or approved exemption
- References: One supervisor reference within the past year required for Cardiac ICU assignments
- Employment history: 7 years with no gaps greater than 90 days
- Completion of facility-specific training modules and attestations (e.g., stroke education, CLABSI prevention, pressure injury prevention, language services, suicide risk assessment, patient transportation with oxygen, ventricular assist device awareness, blood administration, patient bedside rounding, chaperone policy, and others as applicable)
- EPIC training/testing may be required depending on prior experience
Additional Information
- Prior travel experience is not required; first-time travelers are welcome
- Float pool assignments may include ICU and Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Background checks include criminal, sex offender, education verification, and others as per facility policy
- Various certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (e.g., PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC) but are not mandatory for this specific Cardiac ICU role unless specified
- Compliance with all health and safety protocols including COVID-19 vaccination preferred but not mandatory
- Must complete all required facility-specific education and attestations prior to or during orientation
Summary
This is a travel contract opportunity for an experienced Registered Nurse to work night shifts in a Cardiac ICU setting at a Level I Trauma Center in Connecticut. The role requires critical care skills, specific certifications, and the ability to float to related units. First-time travel nurses are encouraged to apply.
