Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse for a Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) travel contract position in Columbus, Ohio.


Required Experience

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (MICU)
  • Minimum Years of Experience: Not explicitly stated; assume standard RN experience for MICU roles (typically 1-2 years ICU experience recommended).

Licensure & Certifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Ohio required.
  • NURSYS verification required for RN license.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA provider or instructor level required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - AHA provider or instructor level required (effective 11/13/25 for new bookings).
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%).
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit specifics:
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) for ER/ER OB/ER Psych units (if applicable).
    • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) for L&D, Post-Partum, OB units (if applicable).
    • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification if applicable.
  • NIH Stroke Certification may be required depending on unit assignment; must be obtained within 1 year of start and renewed every 2 years if applicable.

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting results (Ohio-specific codes apply).
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring required.
  • Education accreditation confirmation required: graduate of an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA).
  • Transcript or diploma verification required.
  • Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start.
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending drug screens allowed).
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
    • TB questionnaire in lieu of annual TB test renewal
    • MMR (Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer with booster requirements if low titer
    • Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
    • Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemption requires documentation)
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31) with mask requirement if declined
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended.

Competency Requirements

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required prior to start.
  • Unit-specific competency exams required.

Additional Requirements

  • Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership.
  • Employment application required including education verification for nursing candidates.
  • Skills checklist required.
  • Annual acknowledgment of dress code and hand hygiene policy.
  • Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgment.
  • Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually.
  • Confidential Fraud Waste Abuse and Compliance Reporting Mechanism form required.
  • Ohio BCI/FBI fingerprinting proof required prior to start.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Ohio
  • Minimum of 1 year of Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) experience within the last year
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
