Description

Registered Nurse (Float Pool)

Location: Weirton, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12 hours per shift, 36 hours per week
Schedule:

  • Self-scheduling with 3 shifts per week
  • Schedule made 4 weeks in advance
  • Every other weekend required
  • Possible holiday rotation participation
  • No call or standby requirement

Unit Assignments & Patient Ratios

  • Float to multiple units of varying acuity based on skillset
  • Units include:
    • Critical Care Unit (CCU) – 10 beds, ratio 1:2-3
    • Intermediate Care (IMC) – 30 beds, ratio 1:4-6
    • Medical-Surgical Level 7 – 27 beds, ratio 1:5-6
    • Medical-Surgical Level 8 – 48 beds, ratio 1:5-8
    • Skilled Care – 33 beds, ratio 1:8-10
    • Emergency Department (ED) – 15 beds (ratios TBD)

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) if working in CCU or ED

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years nursing experience
  • Prefer 1 year ICU or 1 year ED experience
  • Ideal candidate is an ICU/Stepdown traveler comfortable floating to lower acuity units
  • Must be flexible, adaptable, and have multi-functional expertise with strong problem-solving skills

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Manage patient care including ADLs, vital signs, bathing, toileting, feeding, repositioning, answering call lights, and blood sugar monitoring
  • Titrate drips (e.g., Heparin) in ED and CCU
  • Manage critical drips independently in these units
  • Troubleshoot respiratory equipment (ventilators, trachs, BiPAP, CPAP, High Flow, Airvo) as needed
  • Read and interpret telemetry strips, print strips, perform measurements, and identify rhythms (monitor techs available 24/7)

Support Staff & Team Structure

  • Charge nurse present on each shift and unit; may take patient assignments as needed
  • Patient care techs/nurse aides available with ratios approximately 1:7-15
  • Respiratory therapists assigned to multiple units for breathing treatments and respiratory equipment management
  • Telemetry/monitor techs available 24/7

Orientation

  • 1 day unit-specific orientation plus 1 day with a preceptor
  • Orientation provided for only one unit before independent assignment

Additional Information

  • Must comply with a 50-mile radius rule for submissions (driver’s license required)
  • Licensing issues must be disclosed at time of submission
  • Scrub color/dress code: Navy Blue
  • Unit assignments communicated via text message within 2 hours prior to shift start
  • Expected to clock in on assigned unit and complete daily timesheets
