Description
Surgical Technologist (Cardio OR) - Travel Position
Location: Springfield, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel
Assignment Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Provide direct patient care under the supervision of the surgeon and circulating RN in a Cardiothoracic Operating Room. Responsibilities include setting up surgical cases, maintaining sterile fields, performing instrument/sponges/sharp counts, and assisting OR staff to ensure patient safety. Serve as a resource for new Surgical Technicians and students.
Work Schedule
- Shift: Days, 4 shifts per week, 10 hours each (scheduled between 0600-1900)
- Weekly Guaranteed Hours: 36
- Weekend hours as required by facility
- Rotational call: night, weekend, and holiday call (1-2 nights/week and 1 weekend/month on a 4-week schedule)
- May pick up extra call if desired
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) Technologist
- CVOR Technologist experience within the last year
- Surgical Technologist experience
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Experience with ECMO, Impella insertion, Robotics
- Familiarity with CABG, Valve Replacement, VATS, Lung Resection, Aortic Aneurysm Repair
Unit and Facility Information
- Unit: Cardiothoracic Operating Room with 4 ORs
- EMR system: Epic Optime
- Patient population: Cardiothoracic surgical patients
- Fast-paced environment with occasional high-stress situations
- Must adhere strictly to Universal Precautions and sterile technique
Physical and Mental Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk most of the shift
- Lift/push patients on stretchers and equipment/instrument sets
- Work with contaminated instruments and equipment safely
- Ability to work varying schedules and on-call shifts
Additional Requirements
- Flu vaccination or approved exemption required from November 1 to April 1 (declinations not accepted)
- Professional attire required; black scrubs; jeans and unprofessional attire are not allowed
Personality Fit
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment
- Detail-oriented and able to maintain focus during complex surgical procedures
