Job Opportunity: Oncology Registered Nurse
Location: Springfield, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Oncology
- Shift: 4x12 or 3x12 day shifts (7:15 AM - 6:45 PM)
- Average Daily Census: 24 patients (24 rooms/beds)
- Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
- Floating: May float within scope as needed
- Schedule Flexibility: Open to block schedule requests (discuss with manager)
- Locals Accepted: Yes, no radius restrictions
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Illinois
- Minimum 1 year of oncology nursing experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Administration of chemotherapy (IV push, continuous infusion, oral)
- Body fluid handling post-chemotherapy
- Management and disposal of cytotoxic spills
- Accessing ports and central lines (including PICC lines)
- Administration of coagulation factors, antifungals, antivirals, blood/blood products
- Central line blood draws and care, including implanted lines and PICC line care
Required Skills & Competencies
Chemotherapy Skills:
- Administration of chemotherapy (IV push, continuous infusion, oral)
- Body fluid handling post-chemotherapy
- Management and disposal of cytotoxic spills
- Monitoring chemotherapy and recognizing abnormal lab values
IV Therapy/Infusion Skills:
- Accessing ports and central lines (including PICC lines)
- Administration of coagulation factors, antifungals, antivirals, blood/blood products
- Central line blood draws and care
- Starting IVs
Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA (RQI acceptable)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - required based on unit/specialty
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - required based on unit/specialty
- Chemotherapy certification preferred
Additional Requirements
- Background checks and verifications as per Illinois state and facility policies
- Physical exam within one year of start date
- Fit mask test required (specific mask types accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within one year
- Immunizations or proof of immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Drug screening (9-panel) within 30 days of start
- Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
- Competency exam and skills checklist required

- Acute Care Hospital, Level I Trauma Center
- Magnet recognized facility
- Total staffed beds: 562
- Charting system: Cerner
- Scrub color: Any solid color
- Parking permit required (no cost)
Notes
- On-call shifts are not required
- Candidates should ideally have no more than 5 days of return-to-office restrictions
- The client may cancel up to 36 hours of shifts per 13-week assignment without penalty
- Badge photo and various facility-specific documents required prior to start
