Description

Registered Nurse (RN) - 6N Overflow Unit

Location: Wheeling, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week


Unit & Patient Information

  • Unit size: 30 beds
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: Typically 1:6, may increase to 1:7 (RN must be comfortable with this)
  • Common patient diagnoses: Congestive Heart Failure (CHF), Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), cellulitis, rule outs (R/O), cholecystitis, appendicitis, pneumonia, urosepsis, acute kidney injury (AKI)
  • Telemetry: Yes, monitored remotely by monitor technicians
  • Respiratory equipment: No ventilators; intermittent BiPAP available
  • Charge nurse: One charge RN on the floor with assignment
  • Nurse aides: Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) available on the unit

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license for West Virginia
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA)
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Job Responsibilities & Requirements

  • RNs are required to titrate drips, including heparin based on aPTT results
  • Floating: May be required based on census; external travelers are first to float
  • Weekend and holiday shifts: Scheduled as needed, typically about half of the weekends
  • No standby or on-call requirement

Additional Information

  • Scrub color: Navy blue
  • Scheduling system transitioning to Qgenda
  • Must comply with a 50-mile radius rule for candidate submissions
  • Candidates must provide a copy of an unexpired driver’s license at submission
  • Any licensing issues must be disclosed at time of submission
