Job Opportunity: Oncology Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Shiloh, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Specialty: Registered Nurse – Infusion Oncology (Medical Oncology and Hematology)
- Shift: Day shift, 5 days a week, 8 hours per day (7:30 AM – 4:00 PM)
- Facility Type: Acute Care Hospital, Magnet designated

Job Responsibilities
- Work primarily in infusion oncology, including chemotherapy, blood administration, IV fluids, immunotherapy, port draws, injections, dressing changes, quick assessments, and EKGs.
- May be assigned to a fast track area with 4 chairs or the larger infusion center with 32 chairs depending on experience.
- Floating within the service line and scope of practice may be required to meet facility needs.
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend.
- No on-call required.
- Block scheduling is not accommodated.
- Local radius rule: Candidates must be outside a 75-mile radius (locals not accepted).
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Illinois
- Minimum 2 years of Hematology/Oncology nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Infusion nursing experience
Certifications & Competencies
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA only, valid certification required.
- Chemotherapy certification preferred (ONS/ONCC) and Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) preferred.
- Unit-specific competency exam required annually, including Oncology competency exam for Med Surg-Oncology unit.
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required.
- Other certifications may be required based on unit assignment (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, CPI, MAB) – check unit-specific requirements.
Compliance & Background Requirements
- Government-issued ID required (driver’s license for home health roles).
- Criminal background check within 6 months required, including statewide and nationwide searches, sex offender registry, and international searches if applicable.
- Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
- Illinois fingerprinting required for assignments at or floating to long-term care or rehab units.
- Education verification of highest nursing degree required before start.
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, including a comprehensive panel (amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methadone, opiates, oxycodone, PCP). Must be valid throughout assignment.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start required.
- Fit mask testing (N95) required and must be renewed annually.
- Immunization and health document requirements:
- Tdap vaccine or declination (no exemption for Bone Marrow Transplant Unit).
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes.
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination with no exemptions allowed in certain units (e.g., Neonatal ICU).
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season.
- HIPAA acknowledgement, latex allergy questionnaire, confidentiality form, hand hygiene, fingernail, and dress code policies must be reviewed and signed prior to start.
- Regulatory compliance education and orientation modules must be completed annually via online training platform.
Additional Requirements
- Two professional references required (supervisors preferred within last year).
- Employment application must be submitted and uploaded for facility review.
- Unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start, including oncology/infusion skills.
- No on-call duties.
- Must comply with facility policies including vehicle registration if applicable.
Notes
- Candidates may be assigned to fast track or infusion center based on oncology experience.
- Floating within scope and service line is expected to meet patient care needs.
- Locals within 75 miles are not accepted for this travel assignment.
- Weekend coverage is every other weekend.
This position offers an opportunity to work in a Magnet-designated acute care hospital with a focus on infusion oncology nursing in a supportive environment using EPIC charting.
