NICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Louisiana, Lafayette

Position Details

Job Description

• May be assigned to an "Emergency Team" during emergency events, requiring staying at the facility until the event passes or serving on a relief team.
• Floating responsibilities include mother-baby and pediatrics units.
• Weekend coverage required every other weekend.
• Average daily census: 30 patients.
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:3.
• Epic electronic health record experience required.
• Unit accepts first-time travelers only if they have 3 years NICU experience.
• Previous travelers require 2 years NICU experience.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Louisiana.
• Minimum 2 years of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) experience.
• NICU experience within the last year.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Current/valid Driver’s License or government photo ID (color copy).
• 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, updated annually.
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start, updated monthly.
• Education verification of highest level completed.
• Sex offender search required within 30 days of start, updated monthly.
• License verification and NURSYS verification within 30 days of start.
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start; must be initiated within 24-48 hours of offer acceptance.
• Physical exam within 12 months indicating good health.
• Fit mask test (N95) within 1 year of start; onsite fit testing available if needed.
• Immunizations/vaccinations or proof of immunity required for:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (Tdap only for NICU)
  • Measles (Rubeola)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B
  • Varicella
• Negative TB test (PPD, Qgold, or Tspot) within 12 months; chest X-ray and TB questionnaire if positive.
• Seasonal flu vaccination, declination, or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31).
• Skills checklist and competency exam specific to specialty, updated annually.
• Photo for badge: full color, passport-style, taken within last 6 months.
• Employment application/resume required with 7 years employment history and explanation for gaps.

Additional Notes

• Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification is not required for ICU/NICU specialties.
• Candidates must be comfortable with emergency event assignments as described.
• Floating to mother-baby and pediatrics units may be required.
• Candidates should be prepared for weekend coverage every other weekend.
