NICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Louisiana, Lafayette
Position Details

- Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 18:45 to 7:13)

- Contract Length: 8 weeks
Job Description
- May be assigned to an "Emergency Team" during emergency events, requiring staying at the facility until the event passes or serving on a relief team.
- Floating responsibilities include mother-baby and pediatrics units.
- Weekend coverage required every other weekend.
- Average daily census: 30 patients.
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:3.
- Epic electronic health record experience required.
- Unit accepts first-time travelers only if they have 3 years NICU experience.
- Previous travelers require 2 years NICU experience.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Louisiana.
- Minimum 2 years of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) experience.
- NICU experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Current/valid Driver’s License or government photo ID (color copy).
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, updated annually.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start, updated monthly.
- Education verification of highest level completed.
- Sex offender search required within 30 days of start, updated monthly.
- License verification and NURSYS verification within 30 days of start.
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start; must be initiated within 24-48 hours of offer acceptance.
- Physical exam within 12 months indicating good health.
- Fit mask test (N95) within 1 year of start; onsite fit testing available if needed.
- Immunizations/vaccinations or proof of immunity required for:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (Tdap only for NICU)
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella
- Negative TB test (PPD, Qgold, or Tspot) within 12 months; chest X-ray and TB questionnaire if positive.
- Seasonal flu vaccination, declination, or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31).
- Skills checklist and competency exam specific to specialty, updated annually.
- Photo for badge: full color, passport-style, taken within last 6 months.
- Employment application/resume required with 7 years employment history and explanation for gaps.
Additional Notes
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification is not required for ICU/NICU specialties.
- Candidates must be comfortable with emergency event assignments as described.
- Floating to mother-baby and pediatrics units may be required.
- Candidates should be prepared for weekend coverage every other weekend.
