Job Opportunity: SICU Registered Nurse

Location: New Orleans, Louisiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit & Patient Care Details

  • High acuity ICU setting with a patient ratio of 1:2
  • Float requirement to other ICUs and Step-Down Units (SDUs)
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system required
  • Preferred experience with Pulmonary Artery (PA) catheters and balloon pumps
  • No block scheduling requests accepted

SICU Skills Required

  • General post-operative care for surgical recovery patients

Additional ICU Experience (Preferred)

  • CVICU: Post-op care for CABG, valve replacement/repair, aortic dissection, IABP, PA catheter
  • Transplant Recovery: Liver, heart, lungs, kidney, pancreas
  • Experience with Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)

Shift Details

  • Night shift
  • 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (19:45 to 6:15)
  • Total 48 hours per week

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA or RQI accepted; must be current at start
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or RQI accepted; must be current at start
  • NIH Certification

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana
  • Minimum of 1 year of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, with ICU experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience with Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Required Licenses & Credentials

  • License must be current or renewal in process prior to start
  • Valid, current Driver’s License or government-issued photo ID (color copy required)

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start, updated monthly
  • Sex Offender Search required within 30 days of start, updated monthly
  • Education verification or transcript/diploma if verification cannot be completed
  • NURSYS license verification within 30 days of start

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months prior to start confirming good health
  • Negative TB test (PPD, Qgold, or Tspot) within 12 months, updated annually; if positive, chest X-ray and symptom-free questionnaire required
  • Immunity or vaccination documentation required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella
  • Tdap vaccine required for select units (ED, Pediatrics, Mother/Baby, NICU)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start; instant screenings not accepted
  • Seasonal flu vaccination, declination, or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31)

Additional Requirements & Notes

  • Upon assignment acceptance, may be required to participate in an Emergency Team with expectation to stay onsite until event passes or be part of relief team
  • Photo for badge: full color, passport-style, taken within last 6 months, plain background, no obstructions or filters; upload within 24 hours of booking
  • Competency exam specific to specialty required annually, minimum 80% score
  • Skills checklist must be updated annually
  • Employment application/resume required with 7 years employment history and explanation for gaps
