ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: New Haven, Connecticut
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Neuro ICU)
- Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM)
- Patient Ratio: Average 1:2 (days and nights)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Floating: May float within scope to meet facility needs
- Block Schedule: Not accommodated
- On-call: Not required
- Pending License: Accepted
- Neuro ICU experience is required
- First-time travel nurses accepted

Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Connecticut
- Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) nursing experience
- ICU experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check (updated annually) including SSN trace, counties lived/worked, statewide, national sex offender, national criminal, federal extended, and education verification
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
- Foreign equivalency education evaluation and diploma required for internationally educated candidates
- Verification of highest level of education required
- Sex offender search required
- Employment application with 7-year work history and no gaps greater than 90 days
- Work history verification for last 7 years (attestations not accepted)
- One supervisor reference within the past year (standard references for non-CTICU units)
- Skills checklist required within 12 months of start
- Attestation of prior radiation exposure if applicable to certain tech/clinical roles (not RN-specific)
Health and Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 12 months of start, updated annually (3M N95 preferred)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation (no annual update required unless positive history)
- TB questionnaire updated annually
- Immunizations/vaccinations:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (highly preferred for pediatric specialties, labor/delivery, postpartum; declination accepted)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or 2 MMR vaccines; boosters required if titers low)
- Hepatitis B (positive titer, vaccine series, or declination within 1 year)
- Varicella (positive titer, 2 vaccines, or documented history; boosters if low titer)
- 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start (rapid accepted)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Sept 1 - Mar 31); declinations not allowed
- COVID vaccination series preferred
Competency Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam within 12 months (minimum 85% score)
- Color blind testing required for all candidates starting on/after 8/2/2024 (minimum 80% score)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for ICU and telemetry units (not required for NICU or behavioral health)

- AME Blood Administration Module (except Case Managers, Behavioral Health/Psych, Home Health)
- New Employee Orientation Module
- 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for RNs except Home Health)
- ED Handbook (for ED/ER RNs only)
- eCart Training Module (not required for Pediatric, Periop/OR, Outpatient, Case Managers, Home Health)
- Chaperone Policy Training (required if gap of 6+ months between assignments or module updated)
Additional Notes
- RTO (Return to Office) greater than 7 days requires approval
- Parking cost approximately $125/month
- Mobile Heartbeat Alarm Module required for all RNs except ER/ED, Pediatrics, ICU, and NICU
- EPIC testing is optional but highly encouraged for ER RNs with prior EPIC experience
- Medical exemptions for vaccines require facility approval; religious exemptions approved by agency
- Candidates must provide photo ID matching legal name on first day
Prior Travel Experience
- Not required; first-time travel nurses accepted
