Pediatric Cardiology Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Overview

  • Specialty: Pediatric Cardiac Prep and Recovery RN
  • Responsible for pre- and post-anesthesia care of cardiovascular, electrophysiology (EP), and interventional catheterization procedures.
  • Patient population ranges from neonates to geriatric congenital cardiac patients.
  • Includes care for sedated studies, clinic visits, and cardiac surgical workups.
  • Requires strong knowledge of normal and abnormal cardiovascular anatomy and physiology.
  • Perform 2-3 patient visits per day under limited supervision.

Work Schedule

  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:30 AM – 7:00 PM)
  • Staff typically finish by 7:00 PM or earlier.
  • No weekend or on-call requirements.
  • No floating to other units or sister facilities.
  • Minimum of 2 Mondays and 2 Fridays per month required.
  • Scheduling is self-managed within the team; manager finalizes schedule.
  • Radius rule: Must live within 60 miles.
  • Locals may be accepted on a case-by-case basis.
  • Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in South Carolina.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Pediatric Cardiac Cath Lab, with at least some experience within the last year.
  • Experience in Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and stepdown units.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam updated annually, attesting ability to meet physical demands.
  • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days of start; if positive, additional documentation required.
  • Annual TB questionnaire required.
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required or proof of immunity:
    • Tdap within 10 years or declination form.
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella – positive titer or vaccination series with boosters if needed.
    • Hepatitis B titer, vaccination series, or declination.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Aug 1 – Mar 31).
  • COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; if declined, must complete vaccination declination form.
  • 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start.

Background and Verification

  • Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, including:
    • SSN trace, county, state, national criminal, sex offender registry, and FACIS 3.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals.
  • Education verification required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder if needed.
  • Work history verification of last 3 clinical employers required.
  • NURSYS license verification required for all RNs.

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Self-scheduling with team coordination; manager finalizes schedule.
  • Must upload a clear, passport-style badge photo prior to start.
  • Completion of orientation modules (approx. 2 hours) required before orientation; must be done on a computer, not a phone.
  • Upload COVID and flu vaccination records into facility system prior to start.
  • Must complete facility-specific first day instructions and modules before orientation; failure to complete results in being sent home.
  • Assigned to emergency response teams (Storm Teams) during hurricane season (June-November).

Additional Notes

  • Radiation badge not required for this position.
  • No floating or on-call duties.
  • No block scheduling accommodations; scheduling is team-based.
  • Candidates with background hits or licensure issues may not be eligible for temp licensure/walk-through process.
