Description
Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN)
Location: State College, Pennsylvania
Employment Type: Contract (13 weeks)
Shift: 8-hour shifts, Monday to Friday, rotating through 0630-1500, 0900-1730, and 1100-1930
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Weekend and call coverage: Voluntary opportunities available
Job Summary
- Provide professional perioperative nursing care based on current standards and recommended practices (AORN).
- Care for patients from pediatric through geriatric populations in the holding area, operative suite, and post-operative settings.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care based on ongoing patient assessment.
- Maintain sterile fields and ensure availability and functionality of surgical supplies and equipment.
- Apply principles of aseptic technique, surgical technique, patient positioning, and safety protocols during procedures.
- Educate patients and families on surgical nursing functions and operating room processes.
- Maintain professional knowledge, skills, and competency in perioperative nursing, staying current with trends, scientific advances, biomedical equipment, and ethics.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Pennsylvania.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Minimum of 2 years of Operating Room (OR) nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to function effectively as a team member and liaison between patients and staff.
- Demonstrated mental and emotional tolerance, sound judgment, tact, and professionalism when interacting with patients, families, and coworkers.
- Knowledge of perioperative nursing practices and standards (AORN).
Additional Information
- If candidates do not meet preferred qualifications, an in-house 6-month Operating Room course will be provided and must be started upon hire or transfer into the OR.
- Call and weekend shifts are voluntary, not mandatory.
