Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (Operating Room)
  • Shift Options:
    • 3 shifts of 12 hours (6:30 AM – 7:00 PM)
    • 4 shifts of 10 hours (6:30 AM – 5:00 PM) — typical schedule
  • Weekend Requirement: No weekends required
  • On-call: No
  • Floating: Possible floating within Perioperative facility, within scope
  • Block Scheduling: At manager’s discretion
  • Number of Operating Rooms: 9
  • Local Radius Rule: Locals accepted within 50 miles
  • Guaranteed Hours: Traveler may be called off up to 10 hours per 2-week period
  • Precepting: May be required to precept a care team member in the OR
  • Hurricane Season: Travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams June–November; peak in August and September

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in South Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Proof of 2 clinical references (hospital evaluations accepted)
  • Complete employment application/resume including all PTO, contract assignments, agency names, and no unaccounted gaps
  • Background checks within 1 year including:
    • SSN Trace
    • County, state, national criminal checks
    • Sex offender registry
    • FACIS 3 and international searches if applicable
  • Education verification required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder if needed
  • Primary source verification of active, unencumbered SC RN license (NURSYS verification required)
  • Drug screen: 10-panel urine drug test within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
  • Fit test: N95 mask fit test within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
  • Physical exam: Initial and updated annually, attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Immunizations and Titers:
    • Tdap within 10 years or declination form
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or vaccination series with boosters if low titer
    • Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination series with boosters if low titer
    • Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
    • TB test: Negative T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days; annual TB questionnaire required
  • Seasonal Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season (Aug 1 – Mar 31); medical/religious exemptions accepted but no declinations
  • COVID-19 Vaccination: Not required but highly preferred; vaccination records must be uploaded or declination form completed
  • Radiation Badge: Required for this role; must be obtained prior to starting patient care duties (may delay floor access)
  • Color Blind Testing: Required prior to start
  • Competency Exams: Required, including medication/pharmacology competency and OR competency exams
  • Orientation Modules: Must be completed prior to start; estimated 2 hours, completed on computer (not phone)
  • Photo for Badge: Passport-style photo with solid light background, frontal view, business casual attire, no hats or sunglasses

Additional Notes

  • All requests for time off (RTO) must be submitted with application and approved based on facility needs
  • Education verification and licensure hits require facility approval
  • Radiation badge process may take 5-7 days; candidates cannot start floor duties without badge
  • Travelers must comply with all facility-specific onboarding and safety protocols
  • Locals within 50 miles are accepted for this travel contract role
  • Prior travel experience is required; first-time travelers will not be considered

This position is ideal for experienced OR RNs with prior travel assignments who hold a valid SC or Compact RN license and meet the certification and compliance requirements listed above.
