Job Details

  • Unit: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
  • Shift: Rotating 3x12 hour shifts (Day: 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM / Night: 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Weekend Requirement: Yes, as per unit needs
  • On-call: No
  • Floating: Yes, may float within scope to like units as needed
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: Varies by acuity (1:1, 1:2, or 2:1)
  • Total Staffed Beds: 17
  • Charting System: Epic
  • Scrub Color: Navy

Specialty Description

  • The CVICU is a 24-bed regional center specializing in comprehensive circulatory and respiratory support for critically ill adults.
  • Patient care includes open-heart surgeries, ventricular assist devices, heart and lung transplants, ECMO, aortic aneurysm repair, vascular and thoracic surgeries.
  • Multidisciplinary team approach focusing on holistic health, supportive education, and improving outcomes.
  • Utilizes a wide range of bedside modalities including vasoactive medications and full cardio-pulmonary support.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Colorado
  • Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience, with CVICU experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • I9 or Attestation
  • Driver’s License/State ID (clear copies front and back)
  • E-Verify or Attestation
  • Proof of Name Change (if applicable)
  • 7-year Background Check including:
    • SSN Trace
    • Colorado Statewide CBI
    • Education Verification (accredited nursing school)
    • FACIS III or equivalent
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
  • Education Verification or Transcript/Diploma (accredited by CCNE or ACEN)
  • NURSYS Verification (RN license) within 60 days of start
  • Physical Exam within 1 year, signed by MD, DO, NP, or PA (not Chiropractor)
  • Fit Mask Test within 12 months (3M 1860S, 1860R, 1870/1870+) with annual updates
  • Immunizations and Titers:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or signed declination)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (with annual updates)
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) immunity or boosters as required
    • Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination series or declination
    • Varicella immunity or vaccination
  • Drug Testing within 30 days of start and annually (specific panel required)
  • COVID-19 vaccination proof or signed declination
  • Annual competency exams including:
    • Medication/Pharmacology
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG (specific to ICU units)
    • Core Parts I, II, III
    • OSHA Mandatory training
  • Ishihara Color Blind Exam (must be passed prior to start; online testing not accepted)
  • UCHealth Colorado CAPS Release Authorization annually (5 years of address history required)
  • References: Two references from last two years, including one from last year, from Charge RN, Manager, or Supervisor
  • Employment history verification for last 3 years with explanations for gaps over 30 days

Additional Information

  • Maximum of 10 Return to Office (RTO) days allowed, with blackout periods in May, June, July, and September 2026. Flexibility may be considered for hard-to-fill positions.
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios are acuity-based and may vary during shifts.
  • Floating to other similar units may be required to meet facility needs.
  • Facility-specific new employee orientation modules must be completed within the first two weeks of assignment.

This position is ideal for experienced CVICU nurses seeking a travel contract role with a multidisciplinary team in a high-acuity cardiovascular ICU setting.
