Job Opportunity: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Dededo, Guam
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Overview
- Specialty: Emergency Department (ED) Registered Nurse
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Shift: Primarily one shift (day or night), no shift preference allowed
- Hours: 36 hours per week (3 shifts of 12 hours each)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend, flexibility required
- Holidays: Required to work holidays as scheduled (no holiday shift requests)
- Return to Office (RTO): Limited to no more than 3 consecutive days and max 7 days total during the contract
- Locals residing in Guam are not eligible
- Flights are not reimbursed; candidates must plan and include airfare in their pay package
- Travelers must remain scheduled through the entire contract before booking return flights
- Overtime is at management discretion and not guaranteed
- May be required to pick up additional shifts based on census
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a Registered Nurse in the specialty
- Must have a current RN license for Guam or Compact RN license at time of application (pending licenses not accepted)
- Current US passport required (Canadian passports not accepted)
- Certifications (must have digital provider cards; printed or screenshots not accepted):
- ACLS (American Heart Association only)
- BLS (American Heart Association only)
- PALS (American Heart Association only)
- Advanced Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – full completion required before start
- Conscious Sedation (required for ER) – certification fee not covered by facility
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) training – must be completed by compliance deadline
- Emergency Severity Index (ESI) training – required prior to start for ER
- Must pass onsite drug calculations and Basic Knowledge Assessment Tool (BKAT) exams during orientation (pen and paper format; two attempts allowed; 80% passing score)
- Must complete facility-specific nursing modules (8-12 hours) including:
- Pressure Injury Training
- NIH Stroke Scale Training
- Alaris IV Pumps
- Pyxis CareFusion
- FEMA modules (completed onsite)
- Fit test for approved masks (3M 1860/1860s, 1804/1804s, 1870+) within 1 year prior to start; candidates with beards must bring their own PAPR or shave to pass N95 fit test onsite
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year prior to start; annual TB questionnaire if past positive
- Immunization or immunity documentation required for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (immune titer or vaccine series)
- Seasonal flu vaccine required during flu season (Sept 1 - June 30); medical exemptions considered with facility-specific form
- COVID-19 vaccination strongly preferred; declination requires facility-specific waiver form
- 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (instant drug screen acceptable)
- Must provide 2 professional references within 3 years for travel/per diem acute care roles
- Work history verification for last 10 years required
Facility & Work Environment
- Acute Care facility with 132 staffed beds
- Adult Level II Trauma Center
- Charting system: Allscripts/Sunrise
- Parking: Free with registration and decal from HR
- Scrub color: Navy blue preferred; any solid color acceptable; mixing colors allowed; any color jacket allowed
- Cath Lab/OR/PACU scrubs provided
Additional Notes
- Candidates should plan to arrive at least one day before the start date due to long flight times and time zone differences
- Background checks required within 1 year of start, including nationwide and county searches for the last 7 years, sex offender registry, EPLS/GSA/SAM, and HHS/OIG checks
- Candidates cannot start pending background checks; placeholders may be considered case-by-case if recent
- Candidates must complete all required certifications and trainings before or by compliance deadlines; some renewals can be done onsite if expiring within 6 months of start
- Facility does not provide pretest or study guides for orientation exams; candidates are encouraged to review basic knowledge materials independently
This position is ideal for experienced Emergency Room Registered Nurses who are flexible, able to work required weekends and holidays, and prepared to meet comprehensive credentialing and training requirements.
