Description
Registered Nurse (MS/Telemetry) - Travel/Contract
Location: Alton, Illinois
Contract Length: 12 weeks
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Unit & Patient Population
- Acute Medical Unit with Medical and Telemetry patients
- Average daily census: 16-18 patients
- Unit beds: 24
- Staffing ratio at night: 1 nurse to 5 patients
- Patient age group: Adults and Geriatrics
- Patient types: Acutely ill adult and geriatric general medicine, surgical, or infectious disease patients requiring telemetry monitoring for non-acute cardiac conditions
- Care includes advanced medication infusion (without increase titration; decrease/weaning allowed)
- Excludes care for patients with:
- Active and unstable gastrointestinal bleeding
- Uncontrolled ischemic chest pain with unstable vital signs
- Continuous non-invasive positive pressure ventilation (NPPV)
- Certain medications (Tenecteplase, Insulin drip, Neosynephrine, Nipride)
- Responsibilities include:
- EKG rhythm identification
- Pre- and post-procedure evaluation and care
- Neurological assessment and care of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) / transient ischemic attack (TIA) patients
- Float required within service line and scope
- Unit accepts first-time travelers
- Local candidates within 75-mile radius not accepted
- Pending licenses not accepted
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
- Minimum 1 year of telemetry nursing experience, with telemetry experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Work Schedule & Environment
- Night shift only, 3 shifts per week, 12-hour shifts
- No on-call required
- Scrubs color: Navy

Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued ID required
- Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches, education verification, and international searches if applicable
- Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
- Illinois fingerprinting required for assignments involving long-term care or rehab units
- Primary source verification of professional nursing license required
- NURSYS verification required for RN licenses
- Physical exam within 1 year of start required
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, including specific drug panels, must be current throughout assignment
- Immunizations and health screenings required:
- Tdap vaccine or declination (expires every 10 years)
- Two negative TB tests or acceptable alternatives within 1 year
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
- Fit mask testing (N95) required and must be renewed annually
- Required facility-specific documents include:
- HIPAA Acknowledgement
- Latex Allergy Questionnaire
- Confidentiality Form
- Regulatory Compliance Education (annual quiz with minimum 80% score)
- TB Questionnaire (annual)
- Hand Hygiene and Fingernail Policies acknowledgment
- Dress Code Policy acknowledgment
- Orientation modules completion (approximately 16 hours) required for RNs
- Badge photo required (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months)
- Employment application and professional references required (two professional references preferred within last year)
- Unit-specific competency exams and skills checklists required and must be updated annually
Additional Notes
- Float within the service line and scope of practice is required
- This position does not accept local candidates within a 75-mile radius
- Pending licenses are not accepted; active Illinois RN license required before start
- Unit accepts first-time travel nurses; prior travel experience is not required
