Job Opportunity: ER Registered Nurse

Location: Orangeburg, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (ER)
  • Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
  • Patient Ratios: Based on acuity
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • On-call: Not applicable
  • Floating: Required to float within scope to meet facility and department needs

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in South Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association
  • PALS certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Schedule & Work Conditions

  • No block scheduling accommodations
  • Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks
  • Local candidates considered on a case-by-case basis
  • Floating between like units or sister facilities may be required

  • Acute Care Hospital setting
  • 286 staffed beds
  • Charting system: Epic
  • Parking: No cost
  • Scrub color: Royal Blue
  • Hurricane season (June–November) may require emergency response team participation

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background Checks:
    • Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
    • Includes SSN trace, statewide, national criminal, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, OFAC sanctions, and state-specific Medicaid excluded providers search
  • Education Verification: Required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder if needed
  • Licensure Verification: Primary source verification required; must be active and unencumbered
  • NURSYS Verification: Required for all RNs
  • Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
  • References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Employment History: Verification of last 3 clinical employers (or fewer if applicable)
  • Photo for Badge: Clear, passport-style photo with solid light background, frontal view, business casual attire, no hats or sunglasses; must be submitted by Wednesday before start
  • Facility Specific Documents:
    • First Day Instructions and mandatory orientation modules (4-6 hours) must be completed before start
    • COVID vaccination records upload preferred; declination form accepted if no vaccine provided
    • Flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Aug 1 – Mar 31) with documentation uploaded by December 5 deadline
  • Physical Exam: Initial and annual physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands
  • TB Testing: Negative T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days of start; if positive, chest x-ray and annual questionnaire required
  • Immunizations: Proof of immunity or vaccination for Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, and Tdap (within 10 years)
  • Respirator Clearance: Annual medical clearance required for respirator use
  • Radiation Badge: Not required for ER RN

Competency Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required
  • Color blindness testing required prior to start
  • Competency exam required

Additional Notes

  • First-time travelers accepted if ER experience is met
  • Must complete all required documentation and certifications prior to start
  • Facility reserves the right to approve all time-off requests at submission
  • Candidates should be prepared for possible emergency assignments during hurricane season
