PACU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Columbia, South Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (PACU)
  • Shift: Day shift, 4x10 hour shifts (7:30 AM - 6:00 PM)
  • Call Requirements:
    • 1 call night per week (late shift until last OR case recovered, with call-back pay starting at 6 PM)
    • 1 call weekend every 6 weeks
  • Patient Ratio: 1:2
  • Floating: No floating between units or sister facilities required
  • Weekend Work: Only required for call

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in South Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), with PACU experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • ACLS certification
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • PALS certification issued by American Heart Association
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Orientation and Onboarding

  • Completion of facility-specific orientation modules (approximately 2 hours) prior to start is mandatory; failure to complete will result in being sent home
  • First Day Instructions (FDI) and OurDay platform modules must be completed before orientation
  • Clear, passport-style photo required for badge issuance
  • Completion of facility confidentiality, security, contractor forms, and job description prior to start
  • Respirator medical clearance required annually (RespSafety virtual questionnaire)
  • Physical exam within 90 days of start, updated annually, confirming ability to work without restrictions
  • Drug screening: 10-panel urine drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
  • Immunizations and health documentation required:
    • Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination form
    • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or appropriate follow-up for positive results
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: positive titers or vaccination series with boosters if needed
    • Hepatitis B: titer, vaccine series, or declination
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or medical/religious exemption during flu season (Aug 1 - Mar 31) with documentation uploaded by December 5 deadline
    • COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; if declined, must complete vaccination declination form

Background and Verification Requirements

  • Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years, including:
    • SSN trace
    • County, state, national criminal, sex offender, and FACIS 3 searches
  • Education verification required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder if verification pending
  • NURSYS license verification required for all RNs
  • Employment history verification of last 3 clinical employers (or all if fewer than 3)
  • Proof of 2 clinical references required, including at least one from the unit of assignment

Additional Information

  • Local candidates accepted on a case-by-case basis
  • Facility provides scrub color and parking passes (no parking fee)
  • Hurricane season (June-November) may require assignment to emergency response teams; avoid confirming new or extended assignments during peak months (August-September) if this is a concern
  • Facility allows calling off 1 shift every 2 weeks; called-off hours can be combined to equal one shift

This position is suitable for first-time travel nurses. Prior travel experience is not required.
