Registered Nurse – PCU (Columbus, Ohio)

Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit & Patient Population

  • 22 beds (16 rooms), average daily census: 20
  • Adult and geriatric patients
  • Common cases: burns, plastic/reconstructive surgery, urology, gynecology, ENT, oral/maxillofacial surgeries
  • Special procedures: burn dressings, flap checks, leech therapy
  • Floating within the hospital system required

Shift Details

  • 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
  • Every other or every third weekend required
  • Weekly hours: 36

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
  • Minimum 2 years of recent Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including experience within the last year
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Background & Credentialing Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including SS trace, counties lived/worked, nationwide, sex offender, and MVR if driving is required
  • FBI and BCI fingerprinting required using code 3701.881; must be completed within 1 year of start
  • Education accreditation confirmation required for nursing degree (accredited by CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
  • State license verification and NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
  • Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending
  • 2 professional references required (at least one from a manager/director or formal leadership)

Competency & Certification Exams

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required prior to start
  • Unit-specific competency exam required
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%)
  • Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment required annually
  • NIH Stroke Certification may be required depending on unit; must be obtained within 1 year of start and renewed every 2 years if applicable

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive; TB questionnaire required annually
  • Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12) required; exemptions not allowed for those working with infants or pregnant patients
  • 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, and Rubella; boosters required if low titer and no proof of vaccines
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required unless medically exempted with documentation
  • Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series; signed declination acceptable
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene)
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination required during flu season (10/1 - 3/31); mask required if declining
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended

Additional Facility Policies

  • Dress code and hand hygiene policy acknowledgment required
  • Confidential Fraud Waste Abuse and Compliance Reporting Mechanism form required
  • Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
  • Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and signed annually for new contracts

Parking

  • Various parking permit options available for agency staff (costs and availability subject to change)
