Description
Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - Travel/Contract
Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Job Description
- Provide respiratory care including blood gas analysis, ventilator/BiPAP/high flow initiation and management, code response, in-house transport, medication administration, and chest physiotherapy.
- Float between Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Emergency Department (ED), and Adult Critical Care units; additional float units possible based on skill set and hospital needs.
- Patient population includes both adult and pediatric patients.
- Equipment experience preferred: Servo I ventilators and V60 BiPAP devices.
- Charting system used: EPIC.
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (Friday/Saturday).
Required Qualifications
- Valid Respiratory Care Practitioner license in New Jersey
- Minimum 1.5 years of experience as a Respiratory Care Practitioner
- Respiratory Care Practitioner experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
Background Checks:
- Criminal background check within 30 days of start.
- Must include all aliases and locations lived/worked in the past 7 years.
- Instant searches accepted only as placeholders for pending county/state searches.
- Candidates cannot start with open cases.
- Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) hits do not require facility review for this location.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and for every contract renewal.
Health and Immunization:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 3 months of start; additional requirements if history of positive TB.
- Physical exam within the last 12 months confirming clearance to perform job duties and free of communicable disease.
- Required immunizations or proof of immunity: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap.
- Annual influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required.
- Drug screen (10-panel urine) within 30 days of start.
- Fit testing for respirators (N-95) required onsite prior to start; must be clean-shaven unless approved accommodation.
- Latex allergy screening questionnaire if job tasks require glove use.
Competency Exams:
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required within 72 hours of signing contract.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 72 hours of signing.
- IV Therapy/Infusion exam required within 72 hours of signing.
- Pass/fail testing for EKG and medication knowledge required; candidates have 3 attempts to pass.
Additional Clearances:
- Respiratory Medical Clearance via RespSafety required prior to start; must be updated annually.
- Floating policy acknowledgment required for every new assignment or site transfer.
- Annual education sign-off and safety manual acknowledgment required prior to start and annually thereafter.
References and Work History
- Two professional references within the last 2 years required; at least one must be managerial.
- Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history required.
- Work history verification required for all New Jersey candidates, covering at least 1 year prior to start date with no gaps over 30 days.
Additional Notes
- All time off requests must be submitted and approved before offer.
- Candidates must bring all required documentation to orientation.
- On-site fit testing is mandatory and must be completed on the first day.
- Candidates switching between sites within 30 days may have some documentation accepted from previous assignments.
