Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: New Haven, Connecticut

Job Description
- Work schedule: 2 weeks of 12-hour shifts and 2 weeks of 8-hour shifts, rotating between day, evening, and night shifts (D/E/N rotation).
- Schedule is organized in 6-week blocks, typically with one week on a particular shift followed by a different shift the next week.
- Maximum of 2 on-call shifts per week, usually scheduled on days already worked but may occasionally be on separate days.
- Night shifts generally assigned for one week per 4-week schedule block, with some flexibility based on unit needs.
- Must be independent in managing trauma cases, craniotomy, vascular, and endovascular procedures.
- Circulating experience required; scrub experience highly preferred.
- Experience with robotics and orthopedic surgery is strongly preferred.
- Guaranteed hours.
- Start date: ASAP.

Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Connecticut
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including OR experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Current ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Current BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Certifications & Competencies
- ACLS and BLS required.
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) may be required depending on unit.
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required within 12 months prior to start (minimum 85% passing score).
- Color Blind Testing required for all candidates starting on or after 8/2/2024 (minimum 80% passing score).
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for RNs in telemetry, ICU, ER, and progressive care units (not required for OR).
- Additional certifications such as PALS, NRP, CHEMO, NIH Stroke Certification, CPI, and others may be required depending on unit assignment.
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start required.
- Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 12 months of start, updated annually. Candidates must be clean-shaven for fit testing.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation required.
- Annual TB questionnaire required.
- Immunization requirements:
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity via positive titer or vaccination series.
- Hepatitis B immunity or declination accepted.
- Varicella immunity or vaccination series.
- Tdap vaccination within 10 years highly preferred for certain specialties.
- 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start required.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 3/31).
- COVID vaccination series preferred but not mandatory.
Background & Employment History
- 7-year criminal background check required within 12 months prior to start, including SSN trace, counties lived/worked, statewide, national sex offender, national criminal, federal extended, and other checks.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start.
- Education verification required, including foreign equivalency evaluation for internationally educated candidates.
- Employment application must include 7 years of work history with no gaps greater than 90 days.
- Verification of last 7 years of employment required for all start dates on or after 8/2/2024.
- One supervisor reference within the past year required for Cardio Thoracic ICU assignments; otherwise, standard reference requirements apply.
- Skills checklist required within 12 months prior to start.
- Attestation of prior radiation exposure required for certain specialty assignments.

- Baxter Pump Interoperability Training
- Patient Bedside Rounding (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER/ED)
- Ventricular Assist Device Awareness
- AME Blood Administration Module (except Case Managers, Behavioral Health/Psych, Home Health)
- New Employee Orientation Module
- 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for RNs except Home Health)
- ED Handbook (for ED/ER RNs only)
- eCart Training Module (not required for Pediatric, Periop/OR, Outpatient, Case Managers, Home Health)
- Chaperone Policy Training (required if gap >6 months or module updated)
- EPIC testing or training required for ER RNs with prior EPIC experience.
- Mobile Heartbeat Alarm module required for all RNs except ER/ED, Pediatrics, ICU, and NICU.
Shift & Hours
- Typical shifts: Day (4x10 hours, 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM) and Night (4x10 hours, 7:00 PM - 5:00 AM)
- 40 hours per week
Additional Notes
- RTO (Return to Office) restrictions: RTO greater than 7 days requires approval.
- Parking cost approximately $125/month.
- Scrub color: Royal blue.
This position offers a challenging and rewarding opportunity for experienced OR RNs with trauma and surgical expertise, including robotics and orthopedic experience. The role requires flexibility in shift rotations and on-call availability within a Level I Trauma Center environment.
