Oncology Nurse Navigator (Registered Nurse) - Travel/Contract

Location: Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

The Oncology Nurse Navigator (ONN) is an expert clinician with advanced training who manages the complex needs of breast cancer patients and their families. The role involves coordinating care with a multidisciplinary team to ensure access to high-quality care throughout all phases. The ONN acts as a point of contact for patients, caregivers, and physicians, providing resources and assistance with clinical and supportive care services. The position also includes data collection to meet accreditation standards and identify healthcare disparities.


Work Schedule

  • Monday to Thursday: 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM
  • Friday: 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM
  • Onsite at Breast Specialist Clinic (no remote work)
  • 40 hours per week, day shift (5x8 hours)

Required Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
  • Current RN license in Louisiana or multi-state compact license
  • Minimum of 2 years of navigation experience (oncology navigation preferred)
  • Oncology Nursing Certification (OCN) or Oncology Nurse Navigation Certification (ONN-CG) preferred
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification

Preferred Skills & Knowledge

  • Knowledge of treatment options and side-effect management, preferably in gynecological and/or breast cancers
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, decision-making, and critical-thinking skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to develop collaborative relationships
  • Ability to work autonomously and within multidisciplinary teams
  • Understanding of insurance reimbursement, financial hardship resources, and community resources

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
  • Emergency Contact Form prior to start
  • Background checks within 1 year, including SS Trace, County searches (7 years), Nationwide, Sex Offender, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and OFAC Sanctions List
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Negative TB test (PPD, Quantiferon Gold, or T-spot) within 1 year; if past positive, negative chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Immunizations/vaccine documentation or titers for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, declination, or vaccine series)
    • Varicella (titer, vaccines, or history of chickenpox)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or facility-specific flu declination during flu season (Oct 1 – April 30); declination requires mask wearing
  • Annual skills checklist and competency exams as required
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required for all RNs
  • Core competencies and OSHA mandatory training required

Additional Notes

  • Mask Fit Testing is required only for certain units (Assessment Center, AICU, Respiratory) and is completed onsite during orientation; not required for this role.
  • Two professional references required within 3 years of start date.
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.
