Description
Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery (Travel)
Location: San Antonio, Texas
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Days, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Weekend Requirement: Every 3rd weekend
Job Summary
- Provide independent nursing care in a similar clinical setting, managing routine and complex patient needs.
- Deliver care aligned with nursing processes: assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation.
- Address complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families.
- Administer medications and treatments per protocol, monitoring for side effects and effectiveness.
- Document patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided.
- Assess learning needs and provide education to patients, families, and caregivers.
- Make appropriate assignments and delegate tasks to other care providers as needed.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Experience
- Minimum 1 year of Labor and Delivery nursing experience within the last year
Licenses & Certifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
- Current certification in Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C-EFM) or completion of an AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM) course
Orientation & Onboarding
- Newly hired experienced RNs must attend New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days.
- New hires receive preceptorship by a trained staff member.
- Completion of organizational entry competency validation and Perinatal Department-specific competency validation required.
- Annual competency verification must be completed.
Patient Ratio
- Typically 1:1 or 1:2, except when assigned to OB Emergency Department.
Additional Notes
- This position requires working every third weekend.
- The role involves leadership expectations consistent with nursing competencies.
