Location: Shreveport, Louisiana

Job Details
- Unit: Neuro ICU (float to other ICUs if needed)
- Shift: Night shift, 18:45 to 07:15 (4 shifts per 2 weeks, 12 hours each)
- Patient Census: Approximately 10 patients
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2
- Weekend Schedule: Every other weekend
- Scrub Color: Royal blue
- Float Policy: May be floated to other ICUs if Neuro ICU is overstaffed or other units are critically understaffed
- Epic electronic health record experience required
- First-time travel nurses accepted
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) - Must be current and updated annually
- NIHSS certification preferred but not required
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana
- Minimum 2 years of Neuro ICU nursing experience, with Neuro ICU experience within the last year
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Current CPI certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Licensure
- Active Louisiana RN license or Compact RN license required upon submission
- License must be current or in the process of renewal prior to start date
Additional Requirements and Compliance
- Current/valid Driver’s License or government photo ID (color copy required)
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start, updated monthly
- Education verification of highest level completed (diploma or transcript acceptable if verification unavailable)
- Sex offender search required within 30 days of start, updated monthly
- NURSYS license verification within 30 days of start
- Competency exam specific to specialty, completed within 1 year prior to start, minimum 80% score, updated annually
- Color blind testing (if applicable) updated annually
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start, initiated within 24-48 hours of offer acceptance, updated annually
- Physical exam within 12 months prior to start confirming good health
- Fit mask testing (N95) within 1 year of start; onsite fit testing available if needed
- Immunizations/vaccinations or proof of immunity required for:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (Tdap required for select units)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (positive IGG titer or completed vaccine series)
- Hepatitis B (positive antibody titer, completed vaccine series, or booster)
- Varicella (positive IGG titer, completed vaccine series, or booster)
- Negative TB test (PPD, Qgold, or Tspot) within 12 months of start, updated annually; if positive, chest X-ray and symptom-free questionnaire required
- Seasonal flu vaccination, declination, or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
Emergency Preparedness
- Upon assignment acceptance, nurse may be assigned to an Emergency Team with expectation to stay onsite until event passes or be part of relief team
- Must be comfortable with emergency event assignments as directed by unit manager
Documentation
- Resume/application required
- Skills checklist updated annually
- Employment history covering 7 years with explanations for gaps
- Recent full-color passport-style photo for badge (within last 6 months)
Summary
This Neuro ICU travel nurse position requires a minimum of 2 years of RN experience, current Louisiana or Compact RN license, and certifications including ACLS, BLS, and CPI. Night shifts with a 1:2 ratio and a patient census of about 10. The role includes potential floating to other ICUs and participation in emergency response teams. Compliance with extensive background checks, immunizations, and health screenings is mandatory. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
