Job Opportunity: RRT PICU (Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics)

Location: Indianapolis, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours


Job Description

  • Primarily assigned to Labor & Delivery (L&D) with floating to PICU, NICU, and Pediatrics units as needed.
  • Must have experience in L&D and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).
  • Children's hospital experience required within the last 3 years.
  • Minimum 2 years of PICU experience required.
  • May float to multiple pediatric specialties and an additional hospital location.
  • First-time travelers are accepted.
  • Every other weekend work requirement (3x12-hour shifts).

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Respiratory Care Practitioner license in Indiana
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Respiratory Care Practitioner
  • Respiratory Care Practitioner experience within the last year
  • ACLS certification
  • BLS certification
  • NBRC credential
  • Labor & Delivery (L&D) experience

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy).
  • Background checks including:
    • 7-year residential/work history
    • SSN Trace
    • County, Statewide, and National criminal checks
    • National Sex Offender Registry
    • FACIS Level III
    • Education verification
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start.
  • Official transcript or diploma showing degree and graduation date.
  • Online license verification within 30 days of start.
  • Physical exam completed within 12 months of start.
  • Fit mask test within 12 months (approved respirators only).
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months.
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Rubeola (Measles): Positive titer or 2 vaccines (no declinations accepted)
    • Mumps: Positive titer or 2 vaccines (no declinations accepted)
    • Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines (no declinations accepted)
    • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines (no declinations accepted; history not accepted)
    • Hepatitis B: Series, titer, or signed declination required
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap: Strongly recommended (not required)
  • Tuberculosis screening within 1 year (PPD, QuantiFERON-TB Gold, or T-SPOT) with chest x-ray if positive.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/30 - 3/31).
  • Color blindness exam (Ishihara or equivalent) with 100% minimum score.
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam and unit competency exam required.
  • Minimum of 2 professional references from recent employment verified within 2 years.
  • Current employment application with explanation of any gaps over 30 days.
  • Skills checklist completed within 12 months and annually.
  • Completion of facility-specific compliance and orientation documents prior to start.

Additional Information

  • Indiana RN travelers will not be allowed to work at the facility after 11/30/2024, except for Perioperative/OR RNs and Allied professionals.
  • On-site fit testing is a last resort and limited to certain campuses.
  • PAPR use requires prior facility approval.
  • Candidates must complete all mandatory RRT modules before orientation or risk delay.
  • Floating between NICU, PICU, and Pediatrics units is expected.
  • Must be comfortable working in a children's hospital environment.

Summary

This travel Respiratory Therapist role requires strong pediatric and critical care experience, especially in PICU and L&D settings, with a minimum of 2 years PICU experience and recent children's hospital exposure. Candidates must hold an Indiana Respiratory Therapist license and required certifications, complete mandatory facility training modules, and comply with extensive health and background documentation. The position offers night shifts on a 3x12 schedule with every other weekend work. Prior travel experience is not required.
