Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN)
Location: Chicago, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (2 weekends per month)
- Call Requirements: None
- Request Time Off (RTO): Maximum 5 days, no more than 2 consecutive; no RTO on holidays, day before/after holidays, or weekends
- Floating: Mandatory float within scope as needed by the facility
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience, including experience within the last year
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- AWHONN Intermediate
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM)

Candidate Preferences

Required Documentation & Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID (driver’s license or state ID)
- Background check within 12 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Physical exam within 12 months, signed by PA, NP, DO, or MD
- Negative TB test (QGold or TSPOT) within 12 months, updated annually (PPD not accepted after 12/15/2025)
- Immunizations/vaccinations:
- Tdap within 10 years or signed declination
- 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella (boosters if low titer)
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer (booster if low titer)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
- Negative 9-panel drug screen within 90 days of start, updated annually
- Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year; exemptions require approval for PAPR use
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam within 12 months of start
- Color blindness testing within 12 months of start
- Competency exam within 12 months of start
Additional Notes
- This is a mandatory float facility; all staff must float as needed within their scope of practice
- No block scheduling available
- References and employment application required per state and agency standards
- Various facility-specific forms and compliance documents must be completed prior to start
This position is ideal for experienced Labor & Delivery RNs with high-risk OB skills seeking a travel contract in a Level 1 Trauma Center environment with night shifts and a structured weekend schedule.
