Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - CVICU

Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 3x12 hour rotating day/night shifts (6:30 AM - 7:00 PM / 7:00 PM - 6:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours


Job Description

  • Provide nursing care in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU).
  • Float to ICU and Intermediate Care (IMC) units as needed.
  • Work every other weekend and holidays as required.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in District of Columbia.
  • Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience, with CVICU experience within the last year.
  • ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • EKG Rhythm Interpretation competency.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing.

Competencies & Certifications

  • Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam with a passing score of 80% or higher within 3 years of start.
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (Relias) must be current (within 1 year) and meet score requirements.
  • Annual completion of facility-specific safety and orientation modules.
  • Other certifications may be required based on unit assignment (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC) but not mandatory for this CVICU role.

Background & Health Requirements

  • Criminal background check within 90 days of start covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in the past 7 years.
  • Drug screen within 90 days of start (excluding marijuana).
  • Annual physical exam confirming ability to perform job duties without accommodations and free from communicable disease.
  • Immunizations and documentation required:
    • Tdap vaccine within last 10 years preferred.
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; if history of TB, additional documentation required.
    • Documentation of immunity or vaccination for Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR), Varicella, and Hepatitis B.
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season.
  • N95 Fit Test within 9 months of start, updated annually (client may complete on-site if needed).

Additional Requirements

  • Two positive supervisory references supporting at least 2 years of experience within the last 3 years.
  • Complete 7 years of work history with no gaps, including education, employment, license, and contact information.
  • I-9 and E-Verify attestation required prior to hire.
  • Valid driver’s license required if driving is an essential job function.
  • Clear, professional photo for badge.
  • Completion of facility-specific modules prior to start date.
  • Annual competency exams and safety manual acknowledgments.

Work Environment

  • Rotating shifts with 3 consecutive 12-hour days or nights.
  • Floating between CVICU, ICU, and IMC units as needed.
  • Work includes weekends and holidays on a rotating basis.

This position is ideal for experienced CVICU RNs who meet licensure and certification requirements and are comfortable with rotating shifts and floating within critical care units.
