Registered Nurse (Hospice) – Travel Position
Location: Saco, Maine
Contract Length: 8 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking an experienced Hospice RN to provide field case management in a home health hospice setting. The role involves managing a patient caseload, performing admissions, and delivering skilled nursing visits with a focus on adult med-surg, oncology, cardiac, neurological, respiratory, wound care, GI, and GU patients.
Work Schedule
- Shift: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Weekend Hours: Every other weekend, with on-call rotation overnight
- On-call: Rotated among staff; weekday on-call from 5 PM to 8 AM, weekends from Friday 5 PM to Monday 8 AM
- Estimated on-call frequency: Approximately 1 weekday per week and 1 weekend per month
- Weekly guaranteed hours: 40
Caseload & Productivity
- Manage 14-18 patients based on acuity
- Expectation of 5-6 patient visits per day
- Minimum productivity: 25 visits per week
- Visit types: Start of Care (SOC) = 2 units, Recertification = 1 unit, Discharge = 1 unit
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Maine
- Minimum 1 year of hospice nursing experience within the last year
- Experience in a home health setting
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Proficient with Epic electronic medical record system
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Experience with PICC lines and dressing changes
- Skilled in tracheostomy care, port access, ostomy care, chest tubes, Pleurex drains, and suprapubic catheters
- Competent in lab draws, urinalysis, and culture & sensitivity testing
- Comfortable using in-home infusion pumps (no ventilators or invasive monitoring)
Equipment Provided
- Agency laptop and iPhone with necessary accessories
- Nursing supply bin and bag with vital signs equipment
- All equipment must be returned upon completion of the contract
Patient Population
- Adult patients with medical-surgical, oncology, cardiac, neurological, respiratory, wound care, gastrointestinal, and genitourinary conditions
Additional Information
- Must be able to self-schedule and case manage independently
- Collaborative team environment with emphasis on good communication and openness to feedback
- Dress code: Business casual or scrubs (any color); no jeans, open-toed shoes, or clothing with holes
