Job Opportunity: ER Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Shiloh, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:45 - 07:15)
- Hours per Week: 36 hours
- Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 3 patients
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Floating: May float between two nearby locations and to inpatient units as needed
- Local Radius Rule: Candidates must live more than 75 miles away (locals not accepted)
- Start Date: Approximately 3-4 weeks after offer due to compliance processing
- On-Call: Not required
- Block Scheduling: Not accommodated
- First-Time Travelers: Accepted

Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
- Minimum 1 year of Emergency Department (ED) experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Compliance & Background Requirements
- Government-issued ID required
- Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches
- Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
- Fingerprinting required for assignments involving long-term care or rehab units in Illinois
- Education verification of highest nursing degree required (cannot pend at start)
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, including a comprehensive panel (amphetamines, benzodiazepines, cocaine, opiates, etc.)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask testing (N95) required and must be renewed annually
- Immunizations and health screenings:
- Tdap vaccine or declination (expires every 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within required timeframes
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (Sept-April)
- HIPAA Acknowledgement, Latex Allergy Questionnaire, Confidentiality Form, Hand Hygiene Policy, Fingernail Policy, Dress Code Policy, and Regulatory Compliance Education must be completed and signed prior to start
- Employment application and two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
- Unit-specific competency exams and skills checklists required and must be updated annually
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be willing to work in a fast-paced, high-acuity emergency room environment
- No pending licenses accepted; permanent Illinois RN license required before assignment extension
- Candidates may be required to float within their scope of practice
- Returning candidates with prior background or license hits may require additional approvals
- Orientation modules (~16 hours) must be completed through the designated platform before starting
- Fingerprinting and certain background checks have state-specific requirements and renewal timelines
This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with at least one year of experience who is comfortable working nights in an emergency room setting, enjoys teamwork, and is prepared to handle high-acuity patients in a Magnet-designated acute care hospital.
