Operating Room Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job – New Orleans, Louisiana
Position Details
- Job Title: Operating Room Registered Nurse
- Location: New Orleans, Louisiana
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Day shift, 4 days per week, 10 hours per day (6:30 AM – 5:00 PM)
- Hours per Week: 40 hours
Job Requirements
- Valid RN license in Louisiana
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including OR experience within the last year
- One completed travel nursing assignment
- Experience caring for neonate, adult, and geriatric patients
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
- Current BLS certification
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Active Registered Nurse license in Louisiana or Compact License, verified within 30 days of start.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA only, RQI accepted; must be current or renewed prior to start.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – Required if applicable to unit; check unit description.
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – Required if applicable to unit; check unit description.
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – Required if applicable to unit; check unit description.
- Other certifications (e.g., TNCC, EFM, CPI) may be required depending on unit assignment; verify with program management.
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, updated annually.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start, updated monthly.
- Education verification of highest degree completed.
- Sex offender search required within 30 days of start, updated monthly.
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start; instant screens not accepted.
- Physical exam within 12 months prior to start, indicating good health.
- Fit mask testing: Annual N95 fit test required; can be completed onsite if needed.
- Immunizations and titers: Must provide proof of immunity or vaccination for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (Tdap required for select units)
- TB testing: Negative PPD, Qgold, or Tspot within 12 months; chest X-ray and questionnaire if positive.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31).
Documentation & Other Requirements
- Current/valid Driver’s License or government photo ID (color copy).
- Recent passport-style photo (full color, plain background, no obstructions).
- Resume/application and skills checklist updated annually.
- Employment history covering 7 years with explanations for gaps.
- Must comply with facility-specific emergency preparedness protocols during hurricane season (June 1 – Nov 30).
- Candidates seeking medical or religious exemptions for COVID-19 vaccination must complete facility-specific exemption forms with appropriate signatures.
Additional Notes
- Candidates should be comfortable with emergency team assignments and on-call responsibilities.
