Description
Registered Nurse (RN) – IMC Stepdown Unit
Location: Weirton, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Days
Hours: 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week
Schedule: 4-week rotating schedule with some self-scheduling flexibility
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (EOW)
Holiday Requirement: May be required to participate in holiday rotation
Floating: Travelers may float to any inpatient unit and are prioritized for floating
Unit Details
- 30-bed Intermediate Care/Stepdown unit
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4-6 depending on patient acuity
- Common patient types: cardiac patients, post-pneumonia, post-cardiac cath lab, seizures, alcohol withdrawal (CIWA protocols), pacemakers, and others
- Hospitalist available as primary attending; on-call at night with no nocturnist coverage
- Respiratory Therapist (RT) assigned to unit 24/7, manages respiratory equipment (BiPAP, Airvo, trachs) and administers breathing treatments
- Telemetry/Monitor Tech available 24/7; RNs expected to read and interpret telemetry strips, print strips, perform measurements, and identify rhythms
Required Qualifications
- Current RN license valid in West Virginia
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of Stepdown/Progressive Care Unit (PCU) nursing experience
- Comfortable with cardiac monitoring and managing cardiac drips
- Able to titrate drips such as Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Heparin, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Angiomax
Job Duties
- Provide direct patient care including ADLs, vital signs, bathing, toileting, feeding, repositioning, and blood sugar monitoring
- Manage cardiac drips and titrate medications as ordered
- Troubleshoot respiratory equipment as needed (nurses are not responsible for administering respiratory treatments)
- Collaborate with RT and other team members to ensure patient safety and care quality
Additional Information
- Dress code: Navy blue scrubs
- Orientation: 2 days general orientation plus 1 day preceptor shadowing on the unit
- Must submit a copy of an unexpired driver’s license with application
- Disclose any licensing issues at time of submission
This position does not require call or standby duties.
