Registered Nurse (RN) – IMC Stepdown Unit

Location: Weirton, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour day/night rotating shifts
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Unit Size: 30 beds
Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4-6 depending on acuity

Unit & Patient Population

• Intermediate Care (Stepdown/PCU) unit
• Common patient diagnoses include cardiac patients, post-pneumonia, post-cath lab, seizures, alcohol withdrawal (CIWA protocols), pacemakers, and more
• Cardiac monitoring and management of cardiac drips required

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of Stepdown/PCU nursing experience
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications
• Valid, unexpired driver’s license (must be submitted with application)
• Must be comfortable titrating drips such as cardizem, amiodarone, nitroglycerin, heparin, dopamine, dobutamine, and angiomax
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips, print strips, perform measurements, and identify rhythms

Job Duties

• Provide direct patient care including ADLs, vital signs, bathing, toileting, feeding, repositioning, answering call lights, and blood sugar monitoring
• Titrate cardiac drips as ordered
• Troubleshoot respiratory equipment as needed (ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, high flow, trachs) alongside RTs who manage respiratory treatments
• Float to any inpatient unit as needed; travelers are prioritized for floating

Support & Resources

• Charge nurse present each shift (day shift charge nurse usually does not take patient assignment; night shift charge nurse takes lighter assignment)
• Nurse aides/patient care technicians available to assist with patient care
• Respiratory therapists available 24/7 and assigned to the unit
• Monitor/Telemetry technicians available 24/7 to assist with telemetry monitoring

Scheduling & Work Environment

• 4-week scheduling blocks with staff input on ideal schedules before finalization
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (EOW)
• Holiday rotation participation may be required
• No call or standby requirements
• Dress code: Navy blue scrubs
• Orientation: 2 days general orientation plus 1 day preceptor shadowing on unit-specific 12-hour shifts (day/night rotation)
