Job Opportunity: MS/Tele Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
  • Total Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Unit: Medical-Surgical / Telemetry Float Pool
  • Responsibilities:
    • Provide high-quality nursing care in MS/Telemetry settings
    • Float flexibly within units of equivalent or lower acuity as needed
    • Availability required for weekdays, some weekends, and holidays
    • Manage patient ratios of 1:4-5

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
  • Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical / Telemetry nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience with Epic electronic health records system

Required Exams and Competencies

  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required within 1 year of start and updated annually; minimum passing score 76%)
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required prior to start)
  • Unit-specific competency exams as applicable

Background and Credentialing Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881) required within 90 days of start
  • Education verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
  • Monthly monitoring through EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG databases
  • Pending background check attestation allowed if fingerprint results are pending
  • Employment application and skills checklist required
  • Two professional references required (at least one from a manager or formal leadership)

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and freedom from contagious disease
  • Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive
  • TB questionnaire required annually in lieu of TB test renewal
  • Immunizations or positive titers required for:
    • Measles (Rubeola) – 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer
    • Mumps – 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer
    • Rubella – 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer
    • Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemptions require documentation)
    • Hepatitis B – titer or 3-vaccine series (declination accepted)
  • Tdap vaccination (adult dose after age 11/12) required; exemptions not allowed if working with infants or pregnant patients
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (10/1 – 3/31); mask required if declining
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended

Additional Certifications (Unit-Dependent)

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required for certain units (AHA Instructor/Provider or RQI accepted)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required for ER, ER OB, and ER Psych units
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) required for Labor & Delivery, Post-Partum, and OB units
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification as applicable
  • NIH Stroke Certification may be required within 1 year of start and renewed every 2 years for specific units

Other Requirements

  • Annual acknowledgment of orientation safety manual, dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, and compliance policies
  • Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
  • Proof of fingerprinting completion required for subcontractors (physical or photographic evidence)
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with flexible floating assignments
