Description

Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist - NICU

Location

  • Charlottesville, Virginia

Employment Type

  • Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks

Work Schedule

  • Day shift: 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM (4 shifts of 12 hours each per week)
  • 36 or 48 hours available
  • Every other weekend and every other holiday off
  • No return to office (RTO) allowed on 5/25 and 7/4
  • Unit uses a self-scheduling model (manager will explain; desired schedule not guaranteed)

Unit and Patient Population

  • Children's hospital
  • Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
  • Cardiac Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) experience preferred

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Respiratory Care Practitioner license in Virginia
  • Minimum of 1 year of Respiratory Care Practitioner experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification

Required Documentation and Compliance

  • Proof of I9 or attestation
  • Government-issued photo ID (must be carried during hours of service)
  • Background check: 7-year criminal history within 60 days of start, including all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; education verification; sex offender registry; international searches if applicable
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated every 30 days
  • Official transcript or diploma (photocopies not accepted)
  • Fingerprinting may be required depending on unit; facility will notify if needed
  • Education verification through third-party vendor
  • Child Abuse and Neglect Registry check required only for candidates assigned to specific behavioral health or pediatric units
  • Drug testing: 10-panel including marijuana and fentanyl, within 2 months of start and updated annually
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start attesting ability to meet physical demands (Aya form preferred)
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (no declinations or exemptions)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (2-step PPD or Qgold acceptable; Tspot not accepted)
    • Rubeola (Measles): 2 vaccines or positive titer (no declinations)
    • Mumps: 2 vaccines or positive titer (declination accepted if titer negative)
    • Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive titer (declination accepted if titer negative)
    • Hepatitis B: Positive surface antibody titer or negative surface antibody and antigen titers (no declinations)
    • Varicella: 2 vaccines or titer (declination required if titer negative)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (no exemptions)
  • Professional appearance guidelines must be reviewed and acknowledged
  • Release authorization and TB screening forms must be completed prior to start
  • Pass/fail cardiac rhythm assessment required during orientation for adult inpatient RN positions and mother-baby units (not required for this role)
  • Medication and competency exams as applicable

Additional Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required
  • Cardiac PICU experience is preferred but not mandatory
  • Temporary Virginia license can be accepted if obtained before start date
