Registered Nurse (Telemetry Unit) - West Virginia

Unit Details
- Telemetry unit on the 2nd floor with 20 private rooms
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5 for telemetry patients
- Patient types: telemetry monitoring, post catheterization, medical/surgical with telemetry needs, respiratory difficulty
- Cardiac monitoring includes hardwired and portable telemetry monitors; nurses expected to interpret basic dysrhythmias
- Respiratory therapists available 24/7; no ventilators on unit but various oxygen delivery methods used
- Unit-based pharmacist available weekdays 7am-3pm; main pharmacy coverage 24/7
- Nurses responsible for IV placement, lab draws from central lines only if ordered, antibiotic reconstitution, and medication titration (e.g., heparin, diltiazem)
- Two patient care technicians (PCTs) assist with ambulation, vital signs, feeding, and rounding
Work Schedule
- 12-hour shifts: either 7:00am–7:30pm (day) or 7:00pm–7:30am (night)
- Hired specifically for day or night shift; may pick up additional shifts but not required to switch permanently
- Block scheduling and self-scheduling allowed for travelers
- Every other weekend required (day shift covers Saturday/Sunday; night shift covers Friday/Saturday)
- Every other major holiday required (Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's)
- No on-call responsibilities
Orientation
- Three-day orientation: combination of education modules, shadowing, and independent work
- First day includes badge and parking pass pickup, then unit orientation
Required Certifications and Experience
- Registered Nurse license required
- Minimum 5 years RN experience
- Required certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- At least 1 year of prior travel nursing experience required
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with EPIC electronic health record system preferred
Additional Information
- Nurses may be asked to precept or serve as charge nurse based on comfort level; participation is voluntary
- Floating may occur to comparable or lower acuity units (telemetry or med/surg)
- Call-offs require minimum 2-hour notice to hospital supervisor
- Dress code: nurses provide their own navy blue scrubs
- Point of Care Testing includes blood sugar monitoring with glucometer using barcode scanning
