Job Opportunity: RRT (Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics)

Shift Details

  • Night shift: 3 shifts of 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
  • Every other weekend and holidays as needed

Job Description

  • Must have prior travel experience
  • Required to work in a Level 3 NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit)
  • Must be proficient with neonatal oscillating ventilators and have experience with Draeger ventilators
  • Will float between multiple hospital campuses as needed, including NICU and Pediatric units
  • Floating frequency depends on census and staffing needs
  • May be asked to orientate students or new hires

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Respiratory Care Practitioner license in Connecticut
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Respiratory Care Practitioner, including experience within the last year
  • BLS certification
  • Experience working with neonate patients
  • Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients
  • Prior travel experience

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license or state ID matching legal name
  • 7-year criminal background check within 12 months, including SSN trace, statewide, national sex offender, national criminal, federal extended, and education verification
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Foreign equivalency education evaluation and official transcripts if internationally educated
  • Verification of highest level of education
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation
  • Annual TB questionnaire
  • Required vaccinations or proof of immunity: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (or declination), Tdap (highly preferred for pediatric specialties)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season
  • COVID vaccination series preferred

Certifications Required

  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) preferred for ER but not required for this role
  • Other unit-specific certifications as applicable

Competency Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam with minimum 85% score (NICU-specific)
  • Color blind testing (required for all candidates starting on or after 8/2/2024)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam not required for NICU

  • Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment Training
  • Mobile Heartbeat Alarm Module (not required for NICU)
  • Stroke Education (not required for NICU)
  • CLABSI Prevention Training (not required for NICU)
  • Preventing Pressure Injury Training (not required for NICU)
  • Patient Transportation with Oxygen Education (not required for NICU)
  • Pyxis ES MedStation Modules
  • Baxter Pump Interoperability Training
  • Patient Bedside Rounding Module (not required for NICU)
  • Ventricular Assist Device Awareness (not required for NICU)
  • AME Blood Administration Module (not required for NICU)
  • New Employee Orientation Module
  • 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for RRT)
  • Chaperone Policy Training
  • EPIC testing or training (optional but highly encouraged)
  • Fit mask test within 12 months, updated annually (must be clean shaven for fit testing)

Additional Notes

  • Must provide a 7-year work history with no gaps greater than 90 days
  • One reference from a supervisor required for RRT candidates
  • Employment verification for the last 7 years required
  • Attestation of prior radiation exposure not applicable for this role
  • Candidates must confirm final and accurate return-to-office (RTO) dates; additional RTO requests after offer acceptance will not be approved

This position is ideal for experienced Respiratory Therapists with neonatal and trauma experience who are comfortable working night shifts in a Level 3 NICU environment and have prior travel contract experience.
