Job Opportunity: RRT - NICU

Location

Shift Details

  • Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
  • Every other weekend and holidays as needed

Facility Type

  • Short term acute care hospital
  • Level II Trauma Center
  • Total staffed beds: 426
  • Charting system: EPIC
  • Floating between multiple campuses and hospital units including NICU and Pediatric units as needed

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Respiratory Care Practitioner license in Connecticut
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Respiratory Care Practitioner
  • Respiratory Care Practitioner experience within the last year
  • One completed travel assignment
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
  • Experience working with Neonate patients
  • Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients
  • Pediatric Respiratory Therapist experience

Required Licenses and Certifications

  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) preferred or required depending on unit

Additional Requirements and Competencies

  • Must be able to float and work in various hospital units including NICU and Pediatrics
  • May be asked to orientate students or new hires
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam with minimum 85% score (NICU specific)
  • Color Blind Testing required (minimum 80% score)
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and sex offender search
  • Education verification and foreign equivalency evaluation if applicable
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 12 months and annually thereafter (3M N95 preferred)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation
  • Required immunizations or proof of immunity: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B
  • 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season
  • COVID vaccination series preferred

  • Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment Training
  • Mobile Heartbeat Alarm Module (not required for NICU)
  • Stroke Education (not required for NICU)
  • CLABSI Prevention Training
  • Preventing Pressure Injury Training
  • Patient Transportation with Oxygen Education
  • Pyxis ES MedStation Modules
  • Baxter Pump Interoperability Training
  • Patient Bedside Rounding (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER/ED)
  • Ventricular Assist Device Awareness (not required for NICU)
  • AME Blood Administration Module (not required for Behavioral Health or Case Managers)
  • New Employee Orientation Module
  • 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for RRT)
  • Chaperone Policy Training
  • EPIC Testing (optional but highly encouraged)
  • ED Handbook (not applicable for this role)
  • eCart Training Module (not required for NICU)
  • Vaccination Booster Medical Exemption (if applicable)

Work History and References

  • 7-year work history with no gaps greater than 90 days required
  • Employment verification for last 7 years mandatory
  • References required; for RRT candidates, one reference must be from a supervisor

This position requires a highly skilled Respiratory Therapist with NICU and trauma experience, prior travel experience, and proficiency with specialized neonatal ventilators. The role involves night shifts, floating between units, and adherence to extensive credentialing, training, and compliance requirements.
