Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – Medical/Surgical Telemetry Unit
Location: Alton, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks
Job Details
- Unit: Acute Medical Unit caring for adult and geriatric patients with medical and telemetry needs.
- Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM).
- Patient Population: Adults and geriatrics with general medicine, surgical, infectious disease, and non-acute cardiac telemetry monitoring.
- Average Daily Census: 16-18 patients
- Unit Beds: 24
- Staffing Ratio (Nights): 1:5
- Float Requirement: Must float within the service line and scope of practice.
- First-time travelers accepted.
- Local candidates within 75-mile radius not accepted.
- Pending licenses not accepted.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Care for acutely ill adult and geriatric patients, including telemetry monitoring for non-acute cardiac conditions.
- Manage advanced medication infusions without titration increases; decrease/weaning allowed.
- Perform neurological assessments and care for acute ischemic stroke (AIS) and transient ischemic attack (TIA) patients.
- Provide pre- and post-procedure evaluation and care.
- Exclusions: No care for patients with active unstable GI bleeding, uncontrolled ischemic chest pain with unstable vitals, continuous NPPV, or patients on certain medications (Tenecteplase, Insulin drip, Neosynephrine, Nipride).
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
- Minimum 1 year of Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- ACLS certification
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued ID required.
- Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches.
- Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks.
- Education verification of highest nursing degree required before start.
- Primary source verification of RN license required.
- NURSYS verification required.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start.
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, including a comprehensive drug panel.
- Immunizations and health screenings:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes.
- Tdap vaccine or declination (expires every 10 years).
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season.
- Fit mask testing (N95) required and must be renewed annually.
- Required facility-specific documents include: HIPAA acknowledgement, latex allergy questionnaire, confidentiality form, regulatory compliance education, TB questionnaire, hand hygiene policy, fingernail policy, dress code policy, and orientation modules.
- Badge photo required (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months).
- Employment application and unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start.
- Two professional references required (supervisors preferred).
Additional Information
- No call required.

- Must adhere to all facility policies and complete required training modules.
- Candidates must be able to work weekdays and weekends as scheduled.
This position is ideal for RNs with at least one year of experience in medical/surgical telemetry nursing who are comfortable managing adult and geriatric patients with non-acute cardiac conditions and neurological assessments. Prior travel experience is not required.
