Description
Job Opportunity: Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) - Pediatrics/NICU
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
On-Call: Not required
Floating: May float within scope depending on experience; no floating to sister facilities
Facility Overview
- Teaching hospital with Magnet designation and Level 1 Trauma center
- Total staffed beds: 865
- Electronic health record system: Epic
- Parking available at a nominal cost during nights and weekends
Required Qualifications
- Valid Pediatric Respiratory Therapist license in South Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Pediatric Respiratory Therapist, including experience within the last year
- Experience working with Pediatric, Neonate, and Infant patients
- Respiratory Care Practitioner experience
- Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
Schedule & Work Conditions
- Night shifts: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Holiday rotation included
- Every other weekend required
- Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks (guaranteed hours subject to this)
- Radius rule applies: 60 miles; local hires considered on a case-by-case basis
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Proof of work eligibility in the U.S. (I-9 form and attestation)
- Copy of Driver’s License/State ID and Social Security Card or SSN verification
- Annual background check covering last 7 years with multiple searches (SSN trace, state and national criminal, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, etc.)
- Education verification or diploma/transcripts as placeholder
- Primary source verification of active, unencumbered SC RCP license
- Nursys verification if applicable
- Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
- Complete employment application/resume including all PTO, contract assignments, agency names, and no unaccounted gaps
- Work history verification of last 3 clinical employers (or fewer if applicable)
Health & Safety Requirements
- Initial physical exam and annual updates attesting ability to meet job demands
- Fit test for N95 mask (O&M Halyard FLUIDSHIELD or 3M Aura 1870+) within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: positive titer or vaccination series with boosters if low/negative titer
- Varicella: positive titer or vaccination series with boosters if low/negative titer
- Hepatitis B: titer, vaccine series, or declination
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or proof of prior positive with follow-up chest x-ray
- Annual TB questionnaire
- 10-panel drug screen within 90 days prior to start (no instant tests)
- COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; if declined, must complete vaccination declination form
- Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Aug 1 – Mar 31) with documentation uploaded by December 5 deadline
Certifications & Competencies
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Color blindness test required prior to start
- Competency exam required
- Orientation modules and facility-specific training must be completed prior to start
- Radiation badge may be required if working in areas with radiation exposure (not typical for this role)
Additional Notes
- First-time travelers accepted; prior travel experience not required
- Block scheduling may be accommodated with prior approval but is not guaranteed
- Hurricane season (June–November) may require emergency response team participation; consider this before accepting or extending assignments
- Clear, passport-style badge photo required before start
- All required documents and certifications must be current and not expiring within 30 days of start date
