Description

Registered Nurse (MS/Tele) - Travel/Contract Position

Location: Lafayette, Louisiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 18:45 - 7:15)
Hours per Week: 36 hours


Unit and Work Environment

  • 12-bed unit with EKG/Telemetry background preferred
  • Special equipment used: Alaris Pumps
  • Floating required to all inpatient units
  • Must work every other weekend and every other holiday
  • Block scheduling not accommodated on this unit
  • Accepts first-time travelers and those with less than 2 years of experience
  • May be assigned to an Emergency Team during events, requiring staying at the facility or relief duties as assigned by unit manager

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana
  • Minimum of 1 year telemetry experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Experience

  • Minimum specialty experience: less than 2 years accepted (no higher requirement specified)
  • Prior travel experience: NOT required

Certifications (as applicable)

  • BLS (required for all)
  • ACLS (required for charge nurses)
  • Other certifications (PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM, CPI) may be required depending on unit assignment; verify with program management if unclear

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start, updated monthly
  • Sex offender search required within 30 days of start, updated monthly
  • Education verification or transcript/diploma if verification cannot be completed
  • NURSYS license verification within 30 days of start
  • Competency exam specific to specialty, completed within 1 year prior to start, minimum 80%, updated annually
  • Skills checklist updated annually
  • Employment application/resume required, including 7 years employment history and explanation for gaps

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months prior to start, indicating good physical health
  • Negative TB test (PPD, Qgold, or Tspot) within 12 months, updated annually; if positive, additional documentation required
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella
  • Tdap vaccination required only for select units (ED, Pediatrics, Mother/Baby, NICU)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start, initiated within 24-48 hours of offer acceptance; instant screenings not accepted, updated annually
  • Seasonal flu vaccination, declination, or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
  • COVID-19 medical or religious exemption forms accepted with proper signatures

Additional Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Photo for badge: full color, passport-style, taken within last 6 months, plain background, no obstructions or filters; upload within 24 hours of booking
  • Fit mask testing (N95) within 1 year of start; onsite fit testing available if needed with prior authorization
  • Emergency preparedness checklist required for assignments during hurricane season (June 1 - Nov 30)

On-Call and Scheduling

  • No on-call requirements
  • Must be willing to float to other inpatient units as needed
