Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - Travel/Contract

Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours

Job Description

• Provide respiratory care services including blood gas analysis, ventilator/BiPAP/high flow initiation and management, code response, in-house transport, medication administration, and chest physiotherapy.
• Patient population includes both adult and pediatric patients.
• Float between Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Emergency Department (ED), and Adult Critical Care units; additional float units possible based on skill set and hospital needs.
• Equipment experience preferred: Servo I ventilators and V60 BiPAP machines.
• Charting system used: EPIC.
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (Friday/Saturday).

Required Qualifications

• Valid Respiratory Therapist license in New Jersey
• Minimum 1.5 years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist, with experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) certification

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

• Background Checks:

  • Criminal background check within 30 days of start.
  • Must include all aliases and locations lived/worked in the past 7 years.
  • Drug screen (10-panel urine) within 30 days of start.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and for every contract renewal.
• Health Requirements:

  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol.
  • Physical exam within the last 12 months confirming ability to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease.
  • Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption annually.
  • Required immunizations or proof of immunity: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap.
  • Respirator medical clearance and fit testing mandatory prior to start and annually thereafter.
  • Color vision testing if job tasks require color discrimination.
• Competency Exams:

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required within 72 hours of signing.
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 72 hours of signing.
  • IV Therapy/Infusion exam required for all RNs (not applicable to RRTs).
• References: Two professional references within the last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference.
• Employment History: Resume or employment application with 7 years of work history required. New Jersey candidates must have at least 1 year of prior work history verified with no gaps over 30 days.

Additional Information

• All time off requests must be submitted and approved prior to offer.
• Must complete facility-specific floating policy acknowledgment for each new assignment.
• On-site fit testing for respirators is mandatory; facial hair must be clean-shaven unless a religious accommodation is approved.
• Required annual education and safety training (OSHA, HIPAA, Joint Commission).
• Must complete pass/fail testing for EKG and medication administration; candidates have up to 3 attempts to pass.
• Vendor medical clearance form required for candidates with history of positive TB.
• Candidates must bring all required documentation to orientation.
