Registered Nurse (RN) – IMU Unit
Location: Bridgeport, West Virginia
Unit: Intermediate Medical Unit (IMU)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Holiday Requirement: Approximately every other holiday
Call/Standby: None
Floating: As needed (PRN)
Unit Details
- Unit Type: Step-down/Intermediate Medical Unit
- Number of Beds: 18
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:3
- Patient Types: Post-myocardial infarction with sheath pull, ADHD, postoperative vascular, GI bleed, diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA)
- Common Drips: Nitroglycerine (up to 150 mcg/kg/min), Neo (up to 100 mcg/min), Cardene (up to 10 mg/hr)
- RNs are required to titrate drips
- Respiratory Equipment: BiPAP and CPAP available
- Telemetry: All patients are on telemetry; RNs read cardiac strips
- Support Staff: One Patient Care Technician (PCT) per shift
- Charge Nurse/House Supervisor: Available but typically do not take patient assignments
- Dress Code: Royal-colored scrubs
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
Experience & Skills
- Experience caring for typical step-down patients is required
- Ability to manage and titrate multiple drips
Orientation & Scheduling
- Unit-specific orientation provided
- Scheduling currently managed via paper spreadsheet; no guarantee of self-scheduling or block scheduling
Additional Notes
- No call or standby requirements
- Floating on an as-needed basis
- Night shift with weekend and holiday rotation as described
Summary
This is a 13-week night shift RN position on an 18-bed Intermediate Medical Unit with a 1:3 nurse-to-patient ratio. The role requires ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications, experience with step-down patients, and the ability to titrate drips. Telemetry monitoring and respiratory support equipment are integral to the unit. The schedule includes every other weekend and holiday coverage, with no call or standby duties.
