Registered Nurse (Neuro Stepdown & Epilepsy Monitoring Unit)

Location: Morgantown, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Overview

• Unit: Neuro Stepdown & Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU)
• Beds: 31 total (25 Stepdown, 6 EMU)
• Nurse-to-patient ratio:

  • Stepdown: 1:3
  • EMU floor: 1:5-6
• Patient types: Higher acuity neuroscience patients including stroke, seizures, craniotomies, EMU patients, and some with external ventricular drains (EVDs)
• Common drips managed (physician orders or protocols): Amiodarone, Cardizem, Nitro, dopamine, Nipride, Ketamine, Lasix, Bumex, Insulin

Required Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) license
• BLS and NIHSS certifications required at time of submission
• ACLS preferred
• Strong neuro experience with history of caring for stroke patients and implementing NIHSS
• EPIC electronic medical record experience required
• Fully COVID vaccinated (2 Moderna/Pfizer or 1 J&J) or approved medical/religious exemption

Experience & Skills

• Neuro stepdown experience required
• NIHSS certification must be current and in hand at submission
• Experience with stroke patient care and NIHSS implementation
• No vent management required by RN; respiratory therapists manage ventilators and CPAP/BiPAP
• RN does not read telemetry strips; telemetry monitoring techs are present

Scheduling & Work Environment

• Shift: Nights, 3 consecutive 12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM), flexibility required
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend or 2 weekend shifts per schedule
• Holiday shifts required as part of rotation
• Possible floating to other units (7E, 7W, 7NE, or 10W)
• Charge nurse available 24/7
• Nurse aide support: 4 per shift, ratio approximately 1:8-9
• Dress code: Royal Blue scrubs
• Orientation: 2 shifts on unit (12-hour day shifts including weekends and holidays)

Additional Notes

• Must disclose any license issues at time of submission
• Driver’s license address must be outside 50 miles from the facility
• Previous permanent candidates must have been gone for 2 years before reapplying
• Previous travelers must have been gone for 2 years after 1 full year of travel at this facility
• Submission limited to 1 position at a time across the system
• Travel teams must be submitted together
• Only 2 candidates submitted per opening; others held for future openings

Certifications & Licenses Summary

• RN license required
• BLS and NIHSS required
• ACLS preferred but not mandatory
