Job Opportunity: Stepdown Neuro Registered Nurse
Location: Portland, Oregon
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Shift Details
- Unit: Neuro Stepdown (new unit opening mid-June)
- Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:3
- Floating: Yes, within Acute Care division
- Weekend Requirement: Variable
- Block Scheduling: Not guaranteed
- Locals Accepted: Yes
Patient Population & Care Focus
- Diagnoses: Ischemic Stroke, Hemorrhagic Stroke, Status Epilepticus, Post-Craniotomy/Neurosurgery
- Special Procedures: Post-Thrombolytic Care
- Equipment: Stable Hamilton C1 Ventilators, External Ventricular Devices, Lumbar Drains
- Skills Required:
- Titration of vasoactive drips
- Care of ventilated patients
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Oregon
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Neuro PCU (Progressive Care Unit), with at least some experience within the last year
- Experience in Stepdown nursing
- Experience in PCU (Progressive Care Unit), DOU (Direct Observation Unit), or Intermediate Care settings
- American Heart Association (AHA) ACLS certification
- American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Compliance & Screening Requirements
- Background Check: Must be completed within 6 months prior to start, including education and work history verification, international searches if applicable, and national sex offender search
- Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen including methamphetamines within 3 months prior to start (laboratory-based, SAMHSA certified)
- Health Documents:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
- Immunizations or documented immunity/declinations for: Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap, Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Flu vaccination or signed declination for the upcoming flu season
- Fit mask test within 1 year prior to start (N95 or equivalent)
- Physical Exam: Required to meet Aya Healthcare standards (within 1 year of start)
- References: Two manager or supervisor references from the last 24 months required (exceptions apply for return candidates)
- Employment Application: Must include at least 7 years of work history with city and state for each position
Additional Information
- On-call: Not required
- Parking: $16 daily pass (8 AM – 5 PM); public transportation encouraged
- Dress Code: Any scrub color, no prints
- Charting System: Epic
- Facility Type: Short-Term Acute Care, Magnet, Teaching, Level I Trauma Center
Important Notes
- Time Off Requests (RTO):
- Max 5 days approved for 13-week contracts; 7 days for 18-week contracts
- Requests over 5 days require extending contract length accordingly
- All time off must be submitted upfront
- Candidates must be fully available for compliance needs until start date
- Required to review and sign professional appearance policy, job description, coronavirus protocol attestation, and vaccine declination/waiver forms if applicable
- Completion of required online training modules prior to start (Compass modules for RNs)
- Medication override test and orientation guides provided but not required before start
This position welcomes first-time travel nurses and accepts candidates with pending Oregon RN licenses who have submitted their application to the licensing board.
