Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract

Location: Steamboat Springs, Colorado
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Details

• Specialty: Registered Nurse, Labor and Delivery (L&D)
• Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (19:00 - 07:30)
• Hours per Week: 36 hours
• Unit: 10-bed unit (5 Labor & Delivery rooms, 5 Postpartum rooms)
• Charting System: Epic
• Weekend Requirement: Yes, as needed by unit
• On-call Requirement: Yes, as needed by unit
• Floating: Must float within scope to like units as needed
• Experience Required: Minimum 2 years in specialty, including experience as circulator for Cesarean sections (C/S)
• First-time travelers: Accepted
• Preferred: Experience in clinical leadership and mentoring RNs

Required Certifications and Licenses

• Colorado RN license or compact RN license
• AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring (HARD REQUIREMENT; must have in hand or proof of enrollment)
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
• Basic Life Support (BLS)

Time Off and Scheduling

• Maximum of 10 Return to Office (RTO) days approved
• RTO not allowed during these blackout periods in 2026:

  • May 21 – May 27
  • June 28 – July 9
  • September 2 – September 12
• Flexibility may be considered for harder-to-fill positions

Required Documentation and Compliance

• Valid Driver’s License/State ID (clear copies front and back)
• E-Verify or Attestation
• Proof of legal name change if applicable
• Background checks within 60 days of start, including:

  • 7-year background check with SSN trace, Colorado state and CBI checks
  • Education verification from accredited nursing schools (CCNE or ACEN)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
• Education verification or transcript/diploma acceptable in lieu
• NURSYS verification within 60 days of start
• Colorado CAPS check results within 60 days of start
• Employment application and work history verification covering last 3 years (gaps >30 days must be explained)
• Two professional references from last two years (one from last year), from Charge RN, Manager, or Supervisor level
• Skills checklist annually

Health and Safety Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, DO, NP, or PA
• Fit mask test within 12 months of start and annually (3M 1860S, 1860R, 1870/1870+ masks accepted)
• Immunizations or proof of immunity:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or signed declination)
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) - positive titer or 2 vaccines, boosters if titers negative/equivocal
  • Hepatitis B - positive titer, vaccine series, or declination
  • Varicella - positive titer or 2 vaccines, boosters if titer negative/equivocal
  • COVID-19 vaccine or signed declination (acceptable vaccines: AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Moderna)
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually; TB questionnaire annually if positive TB history
• Drug testing within 30 days of start and annually (specific drug panel required)
• Color blind exam (Ishihara test) required prior to start; online testing not accepted for new candidates after 3/1/2024

Competency Exams (Must be current within 1 year and updated annually)

• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam
• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (for ICU, Med/Surg, Tele, Stepdown, PCU, ER, Neuro ICU, etc.)
• Core Parts I, II, and III
• OSHA Mandatory Training
• Electronic Fetal Monitoring (Intermediate AWHONN)

Additional Information

• Facility-specific new employee orientation modules must be completed within first two weeks of assignment
• Candidates must be pre-closed on housing prior to submission

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Colorado
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience, including experience within the last year
• Experience as circulator for Cesarean sections (C/S)
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) issued by American Heart Association
• Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by American Heart Association
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
• AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring certification
• Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) competency
