Job Opportunity: RRT-NICU (Respiratory Therapist)
Location: Durham, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 6:15 AM – 7:15 PM)
Hours per Week: 36
Job Description
- Position requires a Pediatric Respiratory Therapist with NICU experience.
- Patient age groups include neonates, infants, pediatrics, adolescents, and adults.
- Must have Level IV NICU experience.
- Experience with high-frequency jet ventilator and oscillating ventilator.
- Experience with pediatric cardiac anomalies is required.
- Weekend requirement: 6 weekend shifts per schedule (schedule published in 6-week blocks).
- On-call is not required.
- Orientation sessions are held bi-weekly.
- First-time travelers and local candidates within 75 miles are welcome.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Respiratory Care Practitioner license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Respiratory Care Practitioner
- Respiratory Care Practitioner experience within the last year
- Experience working with pediatric patients
- Certifications (AHA approved only):
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Background checks within 90 days of start, including SSN trace, county, alias, nationwide, sex offender, international (if applicable), and education verification.
- Drug test: Negative 10-panel (including THC) within 30 days of start; instant tests not accepted.
- Physical exam within 12 months of start.
- Immunizations and health requirements:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine every 10 years (no exemptions).
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months.
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) vaccination or positive antibody titers (no exemptions).
- Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination.
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer.
- Seasonal flu vaccine required during flu season (no exemptions).
- Polio vaccine or signed attestation.
- Facility-specific requirements:
- Must set up a Guest Account prior to clearance to access orientation and work systems.
- Completion of online modules prior to orientation.
- Competency exam and unit-specific competency checklist required.
- Completion of competency checklists (CBOs) within 3 weeks after start date.
- Employment application and 7 years of work history required.
- Social Security card required if used for I9 verification.
- Driver’s license or government-issued photo ID required.
Additional Notes
- Local candidates within 75 miles receive a slightly reduced rate.
- Candidates must complete all required documentation and clearances before starting.
- Candidates with less than a 30-day gap between previous assignments may have some document requirements waived.
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) Blue Card training provided onsite if not already held.
- Color blind testing required only for phlebotomists (not applicable here).
- No prior travel experience required; first-time travelers are accepted.
