Registered Nurse (RN) – Telemetry Unit

Location: Bridgeport, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Shift Hours: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (12-hour shifts)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Unit Size: 28 beds
Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 5 patients (1:05)

Unit and Patient Details

• Telemetry unit with a respiratory focus; patients include cardiac cases, post-catheterization, acute myocardial infarction (AMI), post-operative lung surgeries (after ICU), respiratory failure, chest tubes, pacemakers, post percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).
• No stepdown patients, no arterial lines, and no sheath pulling.
• Respiratory therapists manage CPAP and BiPAP equipment.
• Nurses must be able to read and interpret cardiac monitor strips (Philips monitors).
• RNs are required to titrate drips.

Staffing and Scheduling

• Charge nurse present 24/7; day shift charge nurse does not take patient assignments, night shift charge nurse does.
• Night shift staffing example: 3 nurses for 10 patients, no nurse aides at night.
• Nurse aides available on day shift for 10 patients (phase 1 of staffing plan).
• Floating required to med-surg/tele units.
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday) for both day and night shifts.
• Holiday work included in rotation with permanent staff.

Required Qualifications

• Current RN license.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification.
• Ability to titrate drips and interpret telemetry strips.
