Job Description
- Position requires strong skills in pediatric surgical services, specifically in Eyes, Urology, Neuro, and Orthopedics.
- Minimum of two years of pediatric scrub experience required.
- Interview availability is required; candidates must provide three available dates and times including their time zone.
Required Qualifications
- Pediatric Surgical Technologist with a minimum of 2 years of experience, including experience within the last year.
- Completion of a surgical technologist program.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Experience working with pediatric patients.
- Strong surgical skills in Eyes, Urology, Neuro, and Orthopedics specialties.
- General Surgical Technologist experience.
Certifications & Compliance
- BLS (AHA) certification required.
- Additional certifications such as ACLS, PALS, NRP may be required depending on unit specifics (check unit description).
- National certification for Surgical Tech preferred but not required.
- State license primary source verification required within 30 days of start and upon expiration.
- Facility-specific pediatric telemetry testing and other competency exams may be required if applicable.
Background and Screening Requirements
- Comprehensive background check within 90 days prior to start date, including all locations lived/worked/schooled in the past 7 years.
- Wisconsin Caregiver Screening required within 90 days of start.
- Education verification required if surgical technologist program was completed.
- Drug screening required to meet standard clinical candidate requirements.
- Various federal and state-level checks (EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG) required upon hire and monitored monthly.
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Proof of Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination (one adult dose required; 10-year update not mandatory).
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes.
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titers required; medical or religious exemptions considered.
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer required; medical or religious exemptions considered.
- Hepatitis B vaccination series and positive titer or declination form required if providing direct patient care or exposure to blood/body fluids.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually during flu season.
- Meningococcal vaccine or declination required for candidates working in Microbiology.
Additional Requirements
- Physical exam must be collected to meet agency standards (not required by facility).
- Signed acknowledgment of orientation safety manual and pass/fail testing for telemetry if applicable.
- Wisconsin BID form (state-mandated) must be completed promptly for caregiver screening.
- Passport-style photo required for badge creation (specific photo guidelines apply).
- References: Two clinical references within the last 3 years required.
- Employment application and annual skills checklist required.
