Job Opportunity: PACU Registered Nurse

Location: Midland, Texas
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: Day shift, Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM (40 hours/week)
  • Call required
  • Start date preferred within the next 3-5 weeks
  • Must assist with coverage in Pre-Op
  • Experience with Level II trauma preferred

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 2 years of PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit) experience, with at least 2 years recovering patients from surgeries (all surgeries except cardiac)
  • PACU experience within the last year
  • Experience working with pediatric patients
  • Experience recovering patients from orthopedic, neurological, urology, OB/GYN, and ENT surgeries
  • Experience with patient monitoring and care involving chest tube insertions, central line placement, intubation, and arterial lines (A-lines)

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Required Background & Compliance

  • 10-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, including SSN trace and all locations lived/worked
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
  • Texas Department of Public Safety criminal history check within 30 days prior to start
  • Texas Employee Misconduct Registry and Employability Status Checks within 30 days prior to start
  • Education verification and transcript/diploma required for certain specialties (e.g., Cath Lab, CVOR, L&D)
  • NURSYS verification for RN license within 30 days of start
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start; additional onsite drug screen during orientation
  • Physical exam required within 1 year of start, must be completed within 72 hours of contract signing
  • N95 Fit Test required within 1 year of start (PAPR not accepted)
  • Annual update of orientation safety manual acknowledgment
  • Confidentiality and security agreement, drug screening consent, TB questionnaire, and compliance checklist must be reviewed and signed prior to start

Required Health Documents & Immunizations

  • Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSpot) within 12 months of start; chest x-ray if positive within 5 years
  • Immunizations or positive titers required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (series or positive titer)
    • Varicella (vaccines, positive titer, or documented history)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or agency declination required October 1 - March 31 (masking may be required if declined)

Additional Requirements

  • Two professional references within 3 years of start
  • Resume or employment application copy required
  • Skills checklist updated annually
  • Competency exams (medication/pharmacology, age-specific) required within 1 year of start
